No to PPF, but Avalon king yourself? Ceramic coatings seem pretty much apply and wipe off these days. As long as your paint is clean and ready to apply.

Yah, I saw a mobile guy who did it and I'm thinking to myself, why are they charging >$600-700? And it's this little itty bitty bottle of stuff ... must be liquid gold or something!

I think a spray on like Gyeon Cancoat works well as a ceramic coating alternative if you don't mind reapplying it every 6 months as part of your wash.

I used to have to clay bar the rust spots in my clear coat. My most recent wash after applying the stuff, everything just comes off with the rag.

I also applied a different product to my wheels (Gyeon Rim) and brake dust just comes right off with soap and a brush. No need for any special wheel cleaners.

Of course, none of this gives you protection from paint chips and light scratches like PPF does.

Never even heard of PPF until this and googled it a bit. Q: What is the ballpark cost for PPF for a sedan? Let's say the most basic package, hood, bumpers, mirrors? Are we looking at $500, $1000, or more?

I got charged $2000 roughly for full front clip + mirrors, but a major cost of that is the prep required - you want the paint to be as good condition as possible so at least a one-stage paint correction is done before using the PPF.

Basically a deep clean wash/decontamination, clay bar, cut/polish to remove all the previous scratches/swirls before using PPF otherwise you're just sealing in all the shitty with the PPF. Helps if your car is new but the dealers often swirl the shit out of the paint getting it ready for delivery. A lot of guys ask the dealer to not even take off the white transport wrap if the car is delivered from the factory.

The cost of the materials isn't much, but the amount of labour to get it applied right is a lot. I've seen some shitty hack jobs where the PPF is crooked, bubbled, and otherwise terribly done.

EDIT: I want to say about $1500-2000 is average depending on what car and who does the install. Teslas are cheaper because less holes to deal with in the front clip IIRC.

Paint Protection Film ? Autowerkes Exclusive

Listed right on the site. He's on the pricier side, but I consider him as a you get what you pay for. So when I go with the cheaper option, I don't feel as bad when it's not perfect. I used him for ceramic coating about 10 years ago, I'm pretty certain the coating is long gone.

Ken is a wizard at hiding the cut lines on the PPF though - you look at my car and you wouldn't know that it was PPFed until you're like 5-6 inches away. I've seen someone's Tesla where they did the hood in 2 pieces and you can REALLY see the seam from 5-6 FEET away. I was flabbergasted the owner was ok with it.

Money no object = ProjectDetail, they're more expensive.

Autowerkes prices aren't too bad. I got a quote from Ken and Roman from RDI and RDI is more expensive for the exact same thing. Both are highly rated from what I've read

Wow. Autowerkes is the cheapest out of the 3.
For a full PPF wrap it's 5k at Autowerkes, 6k at RDI, 7.5k at project detail. Anyone seen work from more than 1 of them?

wrapworkz wants 7.5k for a full PPF (same guys who did my wrap).

Try Vancity Vinyl. the boss is Jacky and he's a really outstanding guy. he did my brake calipers for 350 bucks and im sure he can do your PPF for a great price. He also does wraps and can do them around 4k for 3m stuff.

I had RDI Detailing do my RDX (twice) and have been very happy with the work. Roman is a good guy, easy to work and communicate with. No PPF, just ceramic I my case (get the wheels done - makes a huge difference).
