Both series tied at 2 a piece, so 'best of 3' as they say. Pretty close both in the West and East and could go either way. Game 5 will be BIG, will have huge upperhand in the series.
How did Nurse get such a big contract??
40 pt career high and coming off a 36 pt season when he signed.
It's legit insanity by Ken Holland... and the weirdest thing about it is that he didn't have to do it, Nurse was in the middle of an existing deal at the time and they signed him EARLY because they though they were getting a deal I guess?!
9.25M cap hit until 29-30 season and NMC the entire time. Unreal.
There were posts saying Nurse is a -12 in the post season. On the ice for 18 even strength goals (before last night). Worst defenseman in the playoffs by a country mile. It has to be one of the worst contracts in the entire NHL.

I think 2 main things at play were the Blackhawks set the bar by signing Seth Jones to basically the exact contract. Second of all at the time Nurse was the Oilers guy, even though he wasn't great he was their guy. So Nurse had all the leverage anyway and as if the Oilers, a team since the McDavid era started what was everyone always saying they had none of? Goaltending and Defence. They were screwed from the get go, oh wells they're locked in now and have to ride him out for some years to come. Nothing new here, a lot of times have 1 or more guys like this on the books it is what it is.

Guess dallas wasn't as invincible as everyone made them out to be. Makes you wonder if the canucks would've had a chance too (if they showed up in the last 2 games against the oilers)

Dallas played a good game for the most part, they just got bit by the Oilers Power Play showing up again, and actual good goaltending by Skinner.
No team is invincible (at least I hope people weren't saying Dallas would be!). It's a close series. Way closer than VAN vs EDM where the Canucks mostly benefitted from some questionable goaltending and one miracle comeback. Honestly that series should have ended in 5 games at most, but sometimes things go one team's way for a long enough time, despite probabilities.

I love seeing Nuge have games like this. He goes unnoticed a lot on this team but he's such a fucking good player and works so hard. He's much more well rounded than he was supposed to be.

Congrats OEL ... you're going to the SCF! Must say, kind of pleasantly surprised, thought Rangers looked really good in the early 2 rounds and that they would go to the SCF but they were going to eventually hit the Laviolette jinx (and the Prez trophy winner jinx).

Rangers had as gimme as a series as you can get in the NHL playofffs these days in the first round. In the 2nd round they played good yes but 3 of the 4 wins against the Canes were by 1 goal, technically all 4 games actually game 6 was a 5-3 win with an empty net goal. 2 of those wins were in OT. They were inches from being the team being sent home it was that tight.
Florida was built for the playoffs though and the Rangers players disappeared when it mattered. Will Dallas bounce back and win 2? let's see!
