Somewhat related, I've recently been watching highlights from the Sedins era. While the skill level is definitely high, the speed of the game has increased dramatically since then. It's hard to notice when you've watched consistently over the last decade-plus but looking back now, it's obvious.
Although true, there were other teams that played fast paced. We were just used to the Sedin style that slowed the game on purpose to cycle and tire out other teams. I remember we were also very defensive.
Bringing kids/new fans to great games always seems like you’re setting them for disappointment in the future maybe not with Rick Hockey behind the bench though!
Watching a lot of hockey this season I honestly feel we’re at a whole new generation of talent/player these days.
I’ve never in my life seen Canuck players take and receive passes as hard as Hughes and Miller send between each other, it’s absolutely insane. Their little sling passes to each other are like fucking slap shop speed and they are taking them cleanly between each other, it’s crazyyyyy
As an old school hockey guy it used to be the passer's fault if the pass was too hard and the receiver can't control it. Now the receiver has to be able to control these hard ass passes and it's their fault if they can't!
No games until Feb 6 when they go on the road. Gonna be feening for some Canucks hockey haha. Even so, I probably won't tune into the ASG. Maybe just catch some highlights on that at most.
Call me old school and boring, but I like the skills competition of the past. I find the new stuff too gimmicky? Like last years pitch & puck, and Splash shot. Is that what new generations like to watch? It's got the "Dude Perfect" vibes all over it.
Allvin signed to multi-year contract. After Rutherford was re-signed as well, recently.
Oh how things change in a year ... . They were public enemy #1 last January. Strange to think that Tocchet was hired Jan 22, 2023. Just one year and 9 days ago.
Canucks sign GM Patrik Allvin to multi-year extension
The Calgary Flames are trading center Elias Lindholm to the Vancouver Canucks for a package including winger Andrei Kuzmenko, reports TSN's Darren Dreger.
The full trade is not yet known.
Kuzmenko waived his no-trade clause to accept the move to Calgary, according to TSN's Pierre LeBrun.
The #Flames have acquired Andrei Kuzmenko, a 2024 first round pick, Hunter Brzustewicz, Joni Jurmo and a conditional 2024 fourth round pick from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for Elias Lindholm
That is a high price to pay for a rental.. I'm not saying Lindholm is a bad player, he's one of Calgary's best. I guess this sends the message to the players that management is doing their part to help them win this year.
Center depth will be very valuable in the playoffs but does feel high
Honestly it felt like he was too dumb to play in Tochetts system, and Tochett, to his credit gave him chance after chance and he still let him down. I don’t think his lack of scoring was really an issue but moreso being a constant defensive liability

At least he's a right shot C. Admittedly I don't know a ton about him as a player but hopefully he can produce for us! Can't do anything now other than welcome him to the team and hope for the best
