Scheiffle should get a diving penalty for that. Best rule in pro sports, I just wish it was used more, and other sports got it too.

Confirmed embellishment penalty, HNIC panel is acting like it's a mindblowing penalty for some reason. It's such an obvious call!

Refs just never want to call two penalties in a row on a team, no matter how obvious. Such bullshit

Why don't they show a replay of the Pegger breaking his stick over the Canuck after getting hit?

Canucks power play has no power.
They have not scored on the power play in a long time.

team got humbled again. this powerplay is in need of some serious work. i don't know why they've suddenly lost all effectiveness with so many offensive weapons to choose from.

Awful power play. I don't watch every game, but I sure have noticed that the stars aren't starring lately. Except Hughes and Demko

Great pressure and defensive game in period 1 and 2.
Got carried away playing physical and laying on the hits resulting in missed coverages and out of position play that caused both goals. Juulsen going for the big hit directly led to the 3rd goal, and then he was the last D back on the 4th goal.

They couldn't handle the Boston or Winnipeg.
Colorado and Boston next week. Hope they put up a good fight and win those two.

Boston and Colorado have both won the Prez and Stanley Cups in the same year.

It's definitely not impossible, I just think it adds more pressure on the team who wins it. We're already in a hockey crazy market, the less pressure we can place on the team, the better imo. If they go into the playoffs with that trophy, the media is going to keep mentioning it and talk about the pressure and "the curse" and keep putting it into their heads at every freaking interview.

Last ten years, 2 first round exits, 7 second round exits, and 1 conference final exit.
Only 8 teams in history have won President's Trophy and Stanley Cup in the same season. The 2012-2013 Blackhawks were the last.
Edmonton Oilers (1986-87)
Calgary Flames (1988-89)
New York Rangers (1993-94)
Dallas Stars (1998-99)
Colorado Avalanche (2000-01)
Detroit Red Wings (2001-02)
Detroit Red Wings (2007-08)
Chicago Blackhawks (2012-13)

It's crazy to not want to finish first. It's not necessary to be able to win the Cup, but statistically, you'll have a better chance at favorable matchups.

Sometimes it’s strategy not to? Like for example this year St Louis has kinda had our number so we maybe want to avoid facing them in the first round if it was even possible (it was at one point a few weeks back)

The 2021 Avs won Presidents' Trophy and Tampa won the Stanley Cup that year. The following year in 2022, the Avs were only 4 points away from the Trophy again, but the Panthers end up winning it. IMO I think they didn't want the Trophy, and BAM. Avs win the cup in 2022.

it only guarantees home ice advantage throughout the playoffs, nothing else. stats generally have never worked in this team's favour. all the stats in the world pointed to us winning in 2011. it didn't mean shit.
just last night for example, the jets hadn't scored a PPG in like 15 tries? so of course they scored 2 against us (and rather easily).
this year's team has proven that they can win on the road and have a really good record against the east. i think they would be perfectly fine without the trophy.

I have said this a thousand times. It may be in your favour to be the visiting team to start off any series. You begin series in the other team's arena with 2 games, at that level, it is very conceivable to take one of the two games, and now you have 'home court advantage'. If the lower seed team wins the 3rd game at home, then they are up 2-1 on the favoured team, they start holding their stick a bit tighter and you play a great game 4 ... you're up 3-1. Bam.

The rosters and especially coaching staff are basically entirely different teams. Quote:

They have no bearing on what actually happens. It's actually rare in any sport that "the best team" wins the championship in the end. Even the Chiefs this year weren't "the best team" by any stretch; they just went on a run and won tight games capitalizing on mistakes made by statistically "better teams" throughout the playoffs.
If home teams statistically have a better record, you want to be the home team. That doesn't mean you'll automatically win, but if the stats are in your favour, then the chances of winning are very slightly more in your favour. Especially if it's against lower seeds along the way.

And do you think this young core can handle the added pressure of being #1 seed, favoured in every series, and expected to win or bust?
