Interesting... OceanGate has been involved in lawsuits before, and a former employee was dismissed after speaking up about safety issues. OceanGate could be open to more lawsuits if there's evidence to show that they were negligent.

Imploding is better than slowly suffocating for days miles deep I guess, rip
There were many experts who claimed they warned ocean gates CEO about safety and durability issues but he scoffed at them and even made remarks about needing to break the rules to advance, also called the experts Old White Men who are uninspirational (hence why he only hired young ppl)
I saw a news reporter discuss how it's ridiculous that so much attention and resources are being given to help find and rescue these guys yet migrant ships, like the recent one off the coast of Greece, goes ignored even when they know the migrant ships are in distress

There's probably politics and games in that as no one wants to be responsible for an extra 500 refugees on their shores, no one wants to take responsibility, whereas this is a win if you find them, but no lost if you don't. It sucks but it is what it is.

Sounds like he didn't want to pay experienced people that would call him out on subpar safety standards and hired "inspiring young people" that will work for cheap and do what he says.
I saw somthing pop up on IG, not sure if it’s true but it said it’s far easier to design a vessel to go into space than it is to effectively go to this depth in the ocean?
Also more people had stepped on the moon than been to this depth or somthing? Lol

Space has a vacuum of about -15 psi, so inverse of our surface pressure of 14.7 psi..
The pressure where the Titanic is reaches 6000 psi, so you can guess that the structure you're sending down there needs to be very well engineered to withstand that
For space, the main issue is getting things off the Earth and out of the atmosphere
What about space tourism? The rocket ship experience in that Blue Origin rocket module? Just gotta pay millions to take a space trip in a flying dildo.
Thank goodness they didn't have to suffer. The last couple of days I was just imagining them suffering inside that shell knowing they were going to die. I was thinking about being in there with your father knowing the end was certain and having to deal with the emotion of it all.

I was wondering if they were all going to kill one another to buy more time for oxygen and wondering if the father n son would team up
Here's the full interview with James Cameron and Bob Ballard (who first discovered the Titanic wreck in 1985). They were nice about it, but very critical about how OceanGate went about their business.

The hull was made from experimental material ... a combination of titanium and carbon fibre, you know, the material that we car enthusiasts love. They are starting to make airplanes with carbon fibre but CF is known to lose strength and deterioration. Theory is that the carbon fibre deteriorated over time, apparently, this particular sub has made 13 other dives ... this was the straw that 'broke the camel's back' so to say.
^ I think the data gathering/science part is just one side of the coin, there are definitely unmanned deep dive subs but the other is the thrill and the adventure of seeing it yourself. It's a risk some people consider worth taking.

Pressurization cycles. Airplanes have a rating on the maximum number a particular fuselage is can do, whether it be a traditional metal airframe or a 787.
It's one of the reasons they stick older planes on the Victoria to Vancouver flight. Because they stay under 8000ft, they never pressurize the cabin.
This thing here is that they never did do the correct testing to establish what the maximum safe cycle rating on this sub should be. I guess they found out now that 13 was the limit lol.
I've been kinda wondering with all the CF fuselage's and wings now too tbh... like... a lot of us watch hockey, we can see the tensile strength of those sticks and the crazy bend/whip they have... but then out of nowhere on the simplest plays they'll just shatter with no warning.
Kinda scary to think that planes are made of a similar type of material (I know that sticks are obviously a much lower grade... but still).
