lol first the motors, now the batteries: https://electrek.co/2024/12/20/tesla...battery-packs/
4680 was already a garbage cell design and now the cells are collapsing on themselves
CT would hit their original range promise if they used the LG packs in Silverado/Sierra

Anyone who places an order for a foundation series on the 27th or later get free lifetime supercharging. Look oks like they are getting desperate. Also heard a rumor some US foundation series trucks had the badges removed and where shipped to Canada. https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-cybe...supercharging/

Was the foundation limited? Or it was just a first year thing. I don't think it was actually a limited edition truck. And how much is super charging worth? $5000? Most people charge at home and don't have to public charge

Initially it was limited production and reserved for VIP clients including early investors but eventually they sold them to everyone. Supposedly Tesla is sitting on a lot foundations and trying to unload them.

They say it may be a terrorist attack. One person in the truck died. https://www.cnn.com/2025/01/01/us/cy...gas/index.html

Authorities believe fireworks, gas tanks and camping fuel were connected to a detonation system controlled by the driver in the Tesla Cybertruck that exploded outside a Trump Hotel in Las Vegas Wednesday morning, according to a law enforcement official briefed on the investigation.
| Why do this though? To me, it makes no sense that the driver has to do this while he is still in the frickin CT. It's one thing to strap explosives onto your torso and go out with a BANG. It's an entirely different matter when it could be just the CT and the explosives blowing up while the driver is safely located else where.
It's one thing to want to become a martyr. Unnecessarily dying is just that -- unnecessary.

Everything is a "terrorist attack" in the US now if there's a chance of someone rich being nearby. Luigi is getting a terrorist charge for a basic targeted murder.
No one would dare take the chance of president Elon looking bad from his shitty products exploding either.

This guy was probably just some fuckin loser that had a bed full of fireworks for new years and he was gonna open up the back and shoot them out of the truck while waving a trump flag and he accidentally set them off and contained everything back there.

They are now saying he shot himself before the explosion https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc...6wnx174q8o.amp Quote:
The man who drove a Tesla Cybertruck that exploded outside the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas was an active-duty US special forces soldier and shot himself dead before the blast, officials have said.
Las Vegas police have identified Matthew Alan Livelsberger, 37, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, as the driver of the vehicle, which he rented more than 800 miles away and drove to the Nevada hotel on the morning of the blast.

Did my first road trip on the CT to bring the kids to some winter outdoor.
Overall it was great. I DIY'd a crossbar system using the L-tracks and could hold our snowboards in it, loaded 4 Costco black/yellow bins underneath and all the craps we brought and still able to close the tonneau cover.
Supercharging on CT was great. Kept above 100kw pretty much up to 7x% (the most I had to charge to for a stretch) with the first 10-40% between 180-255kw. Only thing stupid was that Tesla changed the charging port layout and I can no longer use the CCS-NACS adapter from Tesla. So I actually had to follow a route with Tesla SC in mind rather than a more convenient one with 3rd-party. Just placed an order for one that would work with CT and I'd solve this problem for any future trip.
The body and hardened glass took a beating in AB where there were so much road debris. I get hit pretty much every time I pass/passed by a larger vehicle. The body held up quite well with nothing that a quick wipe wouldn't clean. But the windshield got hit by a rock about the size of a dime (I actually saw it flying toward me) and chip a little.
Got it fixed by one of the many chip repair place after arriving to Edmonton for $30 and it's barely visible now.
Overall, the CT did everything I want it to be: an EV with the versatility of a truck and I can beat the crap out of it. The tonneau cover worked wonderfully. Didn't need to worry about leaving stuff in other than getting every frozen parking at -20c weather in AB outside for 3days. The stock A/T tire rode better than expected. I was about to order a set of winters, now I'm not so sure I need them. Of course winters would still ride with more confidence in heavy snow. However, with the weight of the vehicle, I have never once experienced any slip beyond what I'm comfortable with. It might have something to do that the tires are pretty much brand new, so I might change my opinion later. For now though, the truck is incredible for my snowboarding trips.

It almost doesn't feel that I'm driving a truck. It accelerate like a car, turns like a car... and yet have all the space you can have on a pickup and more, it's great.
The F150 we had, it's got the folding tonneau cover, but snowboard trip with that, that'd mean to take out half the bed space for boards. Yes, you could add an aftermarket cover and solve that, but that's never as neat as something from factory. It accelerates like a truck and drives like a truck where you need to take the length into consideration when making turns.
I'm no hardcore trucker... so, maybe I'm over-scrutinizing these points. However, coming from driving regular-sized car/SUV and whatever, one of the things that prevented me from getting a truck was trying to manoeuvre something that size. The CT drives like no other truck, for better or worse... but for me and my wife, we love the fact that after driving regular cars pretty much our entire life, there's little to no learning curve to drive something that much larger/longer.

Wouldn't an SUV be more useful though? Then you don't need a tonneau gimmick, everything is inside already and way more useable and doesn't freeze when left there.
Trucks are only good for construction or towing... otherwise they don't make sense compared to an SUV. And the CT certainly can't tow anything of significance, so it becomes a fashion choice for the end user more tan anything... people that want to giggle that they have a truck but didn't really actually need one.

So how much time did you give up driving the cybertruck to jasper compared to a F150 with its 136L gas tank?

And the CT certainly can't tow anything of significance, so it becomes a fashion choice for the end user more tan anything... people that want to giggle that they have a truck but didn't really actually need one. | It's more about doing day to day chores+outdoor stuff that pushed me into getting a truck.
Regardless what SUV you have, it's hard to fit snowboards or bikes without resorting to a rack system of some kind. Bikes are ok as we do that in the summer and there isn't much dirt to worry about. Snowboard/ski OTOH is a PITA whether you use a rooftop rack or trailer hatch rack. They always get dirt/snow/rain or whatever and it's not a very pleasant experience to arrive at the ski resort only to find your board covered in something.
Yes, first world problem perhaps. But it's just so much easier with a truck. And the reason why I ordered CT back when it was announced was that it checked all the boxes.
It's an EV; no need to worry about gas price.
It's got a bed; load whatever junk in it.
It's got a cover; no need to worry about stuff getting wet/dirty.
I don't ever tow anything, so the idea was never about towing. I just needed a truck to load soil, plants and bikes in the summer and snowboards in the winter. All without having to mess around with racks or whatever accessories I might need. Quote:
Originally Posted by noclue So how much time did you give up driving the cybertruck to jasper compared to a F150 with its 136L gas tank? | It wasn't too bad. Our first stop was Revelstoke, between home to there, we stopped by Merritt to charge for about 30min, which we spent on having lunch at the Denny's right by the SC and I actually left to move the truck before lunch was done as it said I had enough to continue the trip.
At Revy, the hotel we stayed had a charger, so charged to 100% and made it to Banff with about 30% left. Then in Banff again we left with 100% and made it to Edmonton without stopping. We did arrive with only 5% to the hotel, but no stop was needed. The drive back home from Edmonton had more stops. I think we stopped 3 times in total and spent about an hour and half charging, but we planned all the charging stops as meal breaks and really didn't waste much time as we were never waiting in car but rather with some activities.
