lol this thread is like elementary school when non-Asian kids used to make fun of the Asian kids when they brought their lunch from home.
Then some white hipster comes along and takes it, charges $10 a piece for it colours it pink and calls it Unicorn Balls with a storefront in Chinatown before ya'll jump all over yourself to get one.
For Asian style cakes, this is the spot guys. Not St.Germain, Not Janice or La Patisserie or any of those bakery places. Gary's is hands down the best cake I've had in Vancouver. Tried their Mango cake once at a party, have never looked back. https://maps.app.goo.gl/t4gFWxd5s1xqmu6a8
Aww man Gary's mango cake is out out of this world. As a Chinese dude getting the Mango cake is a given but most of the other places are just ok. I had Gary on my radar for a long time when he had his ghost kitchen but I never made the effort to go but now with a real store front he's pretty close by so this can get dangerous!

Was actually chatting about this with friends the other day because some article came up about immigrant kids being bullied for the lunches they bring lol
I remember in grade 2 or 3 we had these Korean twins Peter and Paul come to our school, couldn’t speak a word of English but were fresh off the boat and obviously ate only Korean food at lunch
Distinctly remember people making fun of them because they would always eat these massive gooey balls filled with who knows what, everyone was saying they were eating Monkey balls lol.. fuck I remember the food just stinking compared to the traditional sandwiches and other shit kids would bring lol.. probably good thing they couldn’t understand English or probably would have felt worse with the bullying

So I went to Krispy Kreme this morning at 7am. I was chatting with the dude about how overly sweet that glaze is and he said he also doesn’t like the glaze. He said he can try just to throw on some granulated sugar for me.
Turned out excellent !!!! Taste like those mini doughnuts you get at PNE
This is like a secret menu item. He can only do it when they are making fresh doughnuts as he has to grab it before it hits the glaze waterfall.
Sonick is a genius. I won't go into detail what's so great about his post. But it's damn good!

Meh. I haven’t even checked since my cruise. I think it’s about the same
Like I said in the exercise thread I’m not doing it for vanity or anything. I just went to the gym cuz I was bored… now it’s just a thing I do.
I mean I could really put some effort into it and get down to 220lb (about 30lbs away) but then I’d be too skanky looking and probably too dangerous for the spy ballooon

Now that's a good white dessert right there
I agree with you, the donuts at Krispy Kreme are way too fucking sweet, I always wanted to order a plain one, but I don't think they sell em that way.
Krispy Kreme failed in Hong Kong about 15 years ago (jesus I'm old). I didn't understand why, because there were always huge lineups. My wife assumed because of the sweetness, but now boutique doughnut (and cookie) shops are insanely popular. Filipino chain J.Co was pretty popular for a while too, but there's only a few locations left (tons of places shut down after covid). They are not great though... Tim Hortons quality, maybe a bit better.
It's definitely up there, along with their bacon apple fritter.
Fair mention to the glazed at Lee's and Cream Pony.
Oddly enough one of my guilty loves is Harmony Donuts in North Van, not the sprinkle ones, just the regular iced ones, or cinnamon sugar.
Just a good simple old school donut with a nice crunch on the outside, made by two elderly ladies in a weird old shop smoking cigarettes like a chimney.

Went to Cream Pony a while ago. Definitely good. As I walk out, daughter tells me they have half off, day old doughnuts. Next time, I'll be getting some of those. Gotta get there early, I'm guessing. Been to Harmony. Another great doughnut shop. 50 year history. https://www.nsnews.com/local-busines...couver-7631150

Man I've been to so many 100-day dinners and Asian parties.
The cakes and cookies suck. Fuck that stupid fruit sponge cake, fuck those moon cakes, or any of that jelly/snotty sloppy sweet stuff, it's all crap.
I find even the Chinese bakeries when trying to do "white" desserts like cookies and cakes, just doesn't hit the same (places like Saint Germain Bakery), something is just...off.
Have fun with your DQ ice cream cake
