I was talking to a friend about how good some N/A cars can sound and it had me wondering if there are many new-ish cars that can make those fantastic induction noises. Stuff that sounds so good with just an open intake like the old BMW I6's, the Honda H22, the Toyota 4AGE, or all those classics from the 60's-80's.
From what I can tell BMW went all turbo's by 2011? And even the newest E46 is nearly 20 years old now. Toyota stopped using the 2ZZ by 2007. Maybe the Miata is an option? not sure.
Lexus performance V8s make great noises.
The Corvette Z06 sounds great
The GT4RS also sounds amazing.
Unfortunately those cars are all quite pricy, with the cheapest being a IS500 and that's still well into the 70s.
I can't think of anything new and cheap that's NA and stands out for noise.
ND Miata, but sound alright
86/BRZ they don't standout for noise. Boxer4s aren't going to make great noises.
Everything else is either turbo, or hybrid, or both.
I never thought the E46, or any BMWs sounded great. They were all a little raspy.
I don't think Porsches sound particularly great either.
It really doesn't help that most enthusiast cars have exhausts on them, and most exhausts either a) loud for the sake of being loud, or b) sacrifice sound for the last little bit of power.
just go buy a lexus V8 in either RCF, GSF, or ISF form for mucho savings. IS500 are still around 70 to 80k. At that price point you can get a beatup LC500
A decent RCF is around 40-50 last i checked, and gen 1 ISF's were 20-30k
Underscore, if you are ever in town let me know. You can take the ratrolla for a spin and see if you like that lexus sound (still not as good as the maserati/ferrari v8 but at least it wont cost me like 20k+ for repair bills)
p.s. you can always get a coyote 5.0 v8 cheap. Mustang GT's are dime a dozen and they sound okay
p.p.s. lotus w/ a toyota v6
p.p.p.s Used Aston v8 or v12 (prepare to die from the repair costs tho)
I think the listing is already gone as it used to show up in richmond. But this dickbag is selling a 2018 w/ 60,000kms on it for still 80k. I think its been in a few accidents too
I drove my friend's 2022 Porsche GT3 last summer and that is the best sounding engine I've ever personally heard. Just unreal hearing that thing soar to 9k.
DATS NOT N/A !!!!!

Coyote Mustang 5.0s were like 32k CAD in 2020 with employee pricing, wild.
My preference is for the Challenge/Charger twins for best factory exhaust note. The perfect combo of rasp and aggressiveness (like the Mustang) but also with enough fullness and bass (like the GM)

NO NO NO NO NO! get the fack outta here with yerr stupid beetles
My friend had one of these. Great car to drive. Slow car fast feel. You can keep up with a Type R that's just cruising if you REALLY try. I didn't know how hard he had to try to keep up with us until I drove it. You gotta bang 1-2-3 just to keep up with a Type R taking it really easy, but that's the beauty of it. You can have fun without breaking into jail speeds.

Was it modified at all? I've had a couple sedans as rentals but they're bone stock auto-tragics which isn't really a fair assessment of them.

I'd probably be pretty happy with a 128. As much as I lust after V8+ stuff like the Ratrolla/ISF/C63/Astons/etc I much prefer light, nimble cars to drive despite never really owning one lol. I loved my friends MR-S and I think I'd really like anything like an IS300/Altezza/AE86/Miata. Probably an FR-S too.

I have this exact exhaust for my IS300 sedan... haven't installed it yet though... wanted something with a more distinct note but not too loud, the Revolution version is quite a bit louder than this.
NA sports cars are getting harder and harder to find. I guess you can find an older 987 Boxster/Cayman or E9x M3. I can't think of many cars newer than that that sound decent. Frankly, I'd be happy just to not have fake engine noise piped into the cabin.
I know there is a sound tube mod that people do to ND Miatas to to give it more intake noise:
The induction noise of a FA5/FD2 Civic Si/CSX-S is pretty addicting too. Two of my friends have it and it's pretty fun. Slow as shit but OG vtec and with FBO it sounds pretty amazing. It almost sounds like two-stage VTEC. I don't have a clip, but here's one on the internet.

That sounds a lot better than I expected, pretty similar to the H22 that I really liked in my old Prelude. A couple friends had RSX's a few years back and they really didn't sound very good so I assumed all K series were the same.
