If those 5 guys and Lucic gave Oilers a chance to win the cup, then yes the Oiler would. Its the olds boy club. I doubt fans give up their season tickets based on principle. lol

I know a Flames fan who loved watching this video of the Coilers dressing room after game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals haha:

^ I'm sure there are many who would have 'loved' watching the dressing room video of Canucks after game 7 in 2011. Got to be the shittiest feeling in the world as a pro athlete. Let the disappointment sink in and remember it the year after. That's what Florida did.

-might be extra pain for the Coilers and their fans given the emotional roller coaster of seeing their team tie the Finals series 3-3 after trailing 3-0.

It's a different kind of pain for Canucks fans. I'm old enough to remember our team's three losses in the SCFs in 1982, '94, and 2011.

Sometimes I think that Canucks fans need to have a short term memory of this franchise's history. -similar to a short term memory of an NHL goalie.

What happened in past playoffs from different decades is the past. Focus on the present.

The depth of the current roster is the best it has been in a long time.

Forward lines for next season according to Big Head Hockey:

Debrusk-Pettersson-Podkolzin

Hoglander-Miller-Boeser

Joshua-Blueger-Garland

Heinen-Suter-Sherwood

We have a good coach in Tocchet and his assistants Foote and Gonchar. A competent management team which has done a good job in making trades to make the team better without sacrificing too much in terms of draft picks and doing a better job in managing salary cap.

I'm just concerned about our blueline, it feels like it drops off quite a bit after Hughes/Hronek. Myers was good last year but I don't know if he can keep it up for 3 more years. The 3 guys after are all unknowns, and reviews so far have been a mixed bag, trending towards less effective.

I share the same concern as your about our blueline. -lack of depth among our defence in terms of fast skating, puck moving d-men.

If only Allvin found a young defenceman who is a good skater, makes smart decisions with moving the puck, AND has a right hand shot to fit the team's salary cap haha.

I don't think 1 of Podkolzin or Hoglander is there... I think Sprong will be playing with Petey. He has an off-season relationship with him.

I hate to say it because I want to love the guy, but I think Podz is cooked... not going to be a regular NHL player at this point.

bobbinka 08-13-2024 12:28 PM

lol, St Louis offer sheets 2 Edmonton players.

pastarocket 08-13-2024 12:51 PM

I think that the Oilers GM will let either Broberg or Holloway walk. -not match the offer from St. Louis.

-market for defencemen is always strong at a trade deadline. Keep Holloway and let Broberg walk?
Coilers could use their second round pick to get a d-man.

Broberg's offer sheet is expensive.

Coilers need to save cap room in order to give a contract extension to Draisaitl.

https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article...r-sheet-drama/

-from the article:

But the money is steep, and the Oilers are $7,225,000 over the cap at this moment, with the two offer sheets and Kane ($5.125 million) on the books.

Unless, the GM is going to put Kane on LTIR? Kane has a sports hernia/hip injury.

68style 08-13-2024 01:32 PM

Kane is definitely going on LTIR... mark my words he will come back just in time for playoffs.

TjAlmeida 08-18-2024 02:59 PM

Podz to Edmonton
‘25 4th rd pick to Van

Not sure what to think, outside of cap space it seems they gave up on him for next to nothing.

bobbinka 08-18-2024 04:01 PM

we had 14 fwds and 7 dmen with Podz and i think everyone agrees we would rather carry 8 d instead. podz would have to go through waivers if we waited till season start, so at least we got something for him.

the fact he was traded IN the division and only got a 4th back tells us there was no market for him.

the only question i have is, how does this help Edmonton with their offer sheet and cap situation, lol.

Hondaracer 08-18-2024 04:18 PM

Podz just seemed like the type of player who was just never going to “get it” unfortunately

He had everything you want in a player but eh, what can you do.

pastarocket 08-18-2024 08:05 PM

Coilers do a Salary dump in order to sign Broberg?

Watch, he's going to play on a line with McDavid now

Liquid_o2 08-19-2024 11:56 AM

Love Podz, but he is a 4th liner for his career. Maybeee a 3rd liner if he can figure out how to consistently score 15 goals a year. He doesn't have the high end set of offensive tools. This has been displayed since his first training camp. I never understood why he was a 1st round pick.

The Official 2024/2025 Canucks & NHL Thread

Laine plays for the Habs now. The Blue Jackets get a defenceman.

Your thoughts on this trade? A chance of scenery might be good for him. Laine wanted a trade from Columbus.

man, it must be rough to be a Columbus fan. it just doesnt work out for any star player there

whitev70r 08-19-2024 02:38 PM

Johnny Gaudreau. seems to be thriving there .. :lawl:

Hondaracer 08-19-2024 02:47 PM

Habs seem like they are just tracking as oilers East without the draft picks lol

68style 08-19-2024 03:54 PM

I can't figure out why Montreal would part with a great young D in Harris to pick up a guy with serious addiction problems who can't score or play sound defensively anymore for $8.7M a year... my buddy who's a big Montreal fan is just livid right now lol
