I'm not celebrating that he's injured, the Oilers need a reality check they are nothing with out McDavid.

teggy604 10-29-2024 05:31 PM

Mc David should really consider if he can win a cup with this Edmonton roster and organization. Do they have any good prospects? Because the current roster is old and slow and past their prime. And while he is really talented, he won't be sitting with Crosby, MacKinnon, Ovi, Barkov, Stamkos, and Kucherov table anytime soon.

When did Ovi win his first cup?

Hondaracer 10-29-2024 07:03 PM

Ovi isn’t anywhere NEAR Sid due to his lack of success though. Players like McDavid want to be in that all-time category, not Ovi category

Even when Ovi breaks Gretzkys record he probably won’t even be considered top 10, hell, he’s probably not even a top 20 player to be honest.

IMO Sid is the benchmark and there’s a hell of a case he’s the greatest of all time imo. It’s so much harder to be the best in current times than it ever was in the past when the “greats” played imo

McDavid is the talent level to be in that top 5/top 10 category but even at his age, he’s kind of running out of time

SkinnyPupp 10-29-2024 07:49 PM

Remember they were within one game of winning it all last year

It's tough to win it all, even with one really great player.

Hondaracer 10-29-2024 07:52 PM

That’s the difference between great and good

SkinnyPupp 10-29-2024 08:03 PM

Usually the difference is having a complete team with very few injuries, and some luck going your way. Especially when it comes down to 1 game

68style 10-29-2024 08:13 PM

Or not having Stuart Skinner in net and Darnell Nurse on D

to be fair, a lot of us enjoyed seeing rat face get sucker punched and fly into the boards last year lol. he finally got a taste of his own medicine in the playoffs.

teggy604 10-30-2024 08:14 AM

You think NJ would take a Petey and Jack trade? Canucks can save 3 million and put that on the books lol. Just putting it out there cuz Petey NMC has not kicked in yet.

whitev70r 10-30-2024 08:20 AM

^ why would NJ do this? They are on top of their division and looking pretty solid as an all around team. Why would they give up a crucial piece of their roster for Petey? Even in fantasy NHL ... no one would pull a trigger on this from the NJ side.

68style 10-30-2024 09:39 AM

Not sure why the coaching staff keeps sticking with the Soucy+Myers pairing... I got nothing against either player individually although I don't think Soucy is having the best start to his year, but together they've been getting absolutely caved in.

Not to mention Hughes is younger and cheaper.

Both are great players, but EP40 is not worth the extra 2.6m over Hughes IMO.

Ovechkin and his Capitals team mates won the Stanley Cup in 2018.

Ovi is one of my all time favorite hockey players.

Ovechkin is a rare combination of elite level offensive skill and a physical game.

He is not just a goal scorer. A big 200 plus pound player who threw big body checks in his prime.

Crosby is better than Ovi. No doubt about it. Sid does not play a physical game like Ovi though.

This is my Ovechkin jersey.

I do not wear it now because of the Russia and Ukraine war. -do not wanna any local Ukrainians to yell at me. LUL

Greatest goal scorer of all time.

Was super excited watching him lift the cup.

I'll never forget DSP's goal to tie up and then Eller's a few minutes later. The place went nuts.

ssshhh. Don't let NJ know. In terms of salary Petey is better than Hughes. 11.6M vs 8M. lol.

I don't think NJ would lose anything. They would still get a top player and maybe Petey can do better without the added pressure in Canada. In exchange we get Hughes x2 chemistry. And maybe Quinn can sign a cheaper deal to stay in Vancouver long term.

murd0c 10-30-2024 01:02 PM

Ovi is by far the greatest goal scorer of all time, look at the Era when Gretzky played, it was wide open hockey and super easy to score. Ovi has been doing all of this with modern day hockey and has been healthy his entire career which is impressive since he's around 240lbs which is rare for a nhler

Yeah with him it's fair game because he goes around trying to injure others

Yup, one of the greatest players of all time. And he won his first (and only) cup 13 years into his career or whatever.

That's why it's silly to use championships as a means of evaluating a player. If you did that with Ovi, he's not "great" just "good". But if you watch him play, you would be insane not to think he's great. Same thing with McDavid. Same thing with Dan Marino in NFL. It's tough to win the whole thing! That's what makes it so special.

People see Crosby or Brady or Mahomes and think "well you're no good if you can't do what they do". It's crazy.

Is Dan Marino even in the same stratosphere as Tom Brady? Of course not.

In sports championships matter, regardless of how good you are. A lack of championships keeps “great” players out of hall of fames. That’s how sports are.

F1 is a great example of this, you’re literally one of the top 15 drivers in the entire world, you destroyed competition at every level previously, you were the best driver of your generation.

If you never won a race, or only won 1-2, people don’t even remember your name.

SkinnyPupp 10-30-2024 03:58 PM

Tom Brady is clearly better than Dan Marino

That doesn't mean Dan Marino is a bum

bobbinka 10-30-2024 07:37 PM

Booooo

teggy604 10-30-2024 08:02 PM

I agree with Hondaracer. Championship does matter. That literally what players play for. If your a kid and you just want to play for money and fame. I wouldn't want you on my team.
