^ AND imagine in your scenario, they pay you like ~50% of the money on the term of the contract in the first 2 years as 'signing bonus'. Hard not to slack off when you already have the dough.
But in the end, we know that NMC and NTC are all flexible. If and when things get real bad, they either have a list of teams or eventually, team will pull some move like, 'if you don't waive the NMC, we'll put you on waivers".

No kidding, I mean again with the pride thing, I don't doubt it's there and you have to be an ultra-competitive minded person to ever get to that level in the first place... but I'd be the first to admit, if I made a $30-40M bag on signing bonus/upfront money, I'd sure as fuck take it easy or quit lol... have to read a couple of articles about how you're a fuck and a waste of talent and then everyone forgets about you. Who cares lol
I think the only thing that keeps a lot of guys honest is that to get to this level they literally know nothing but hockey. They have no idea what to do with themselves outside of it.
I have some friends who are buddies with Troy Stecher, who is barely a NHL player every year, and the dude literally does nothing but get high on weed and play video games/build Legos every day. No ambition, no goals, just remember to show up for game time and do just enough to keep getting a couple mill a year. Dude has made almost $13M dollars being a 7th defenceman.
Even waivers aren't really a threat, nobody is going to take an $11M cap hit off your hands on waivers... they just go through and nobody takes them and they're stuck on your cap/roster, can't even send them to the minors if it's a NMC. Literally have to buy them out (OEL) or pay another team draft picks/prospects/money to take them.

That’s kinda why if I’m on any side it’s probably Millers just due to Petey’s consistent lack of effort on the ice.
It’s one thing to be in a slump but those early days this year when he’s just pouting and not being engaged, it’s inexcusable when you see guys like Garland skating their ass off

Oh, getting bought out is another posh move .. you now get paid for actually doing nothing AND you can double dip by signing a $1M/yr vet minimum ... !!!
Anyhow, nothing that the avg person here will ever have to worry about.

I'm on team Miller, I like his grit, the guy is passionate about the game, and we need more of those types of players on the Canucks.
The Canucks have long been known as a country club team over the years, too many "passengers", guys here to collect a big check that have no care about Vancouver or playing in the city.
Something about Petterson's personality and play at times just grinds my gears, he just comes off like he doesn't really care, I could be totally wrong, but I can see how that would infuriate a guy like Miller.

On the flip side, there are plenty of NHL superstar level players who have that passion to play hard on a consistent basis. Why? They want to be known as a champion one day. Lift up a Stanley Cup as a winner. That kind of passion and hunger to try to be the best they can be and help their team win a championship makes players like McDavid and MacKinnon such elite players.
Unfortunately, Petey is nowhere near players like McDavid and MacKinnon in terms of skill level and competitiveness. I don't see EP40 having that same drive and passion as a player to make himself and his team improve every season.
Yeah, there are many great NHL players could retire as multi millionaires one day. Would you want to be known as a great NHL player who made millions but never win a Stanley Cup?
Joe Thornton, Jarome Iginla, our Sedin twins etc. They fall into that category of being Hall of Fame players or candidates to be in the Hall of Fame like Thornton but never winning a Stanley Cup. -not saying that the Sedins, Iginla, or Thornton did not have the drive or passion to want to win a championship. Their teams were just not good enough during their playing careers to win a Stanley Cup.

McDavid is one of those dudes I would comfortably lump into the fact that he doesn't know ANYTHING besides hockey. Lived and breathed it since he slid out of his mom's vagine.
MacKinnon is an absolute freak, his size and speed.
Petey gives off the vibe even when he's producing that he's just really good at deception and relies on being able to do cool stuff and he sees the future of any play really well... but if other guys aren't skating to open areas or he has to grind at all he just disappears. No power in his skating, no determination... how many times, including last night on the empty netter, have you see him just slumping his shoulders and looking upwards like "WOE IS ME" it's pretty tiresome.
Keifer Sherwood is currently the best player on the entire team and while that is really great for him, it's really sad from a team perspective. It also means he's going to be priced out of re-signing when we need him most too.

What is it about Vancouver that makes players not seem to want to be here, or lack that passion?
You see some teams like Boston and any player that goes there just assimilates into their culture, the passion, you get a feeling on some of these teams that the players like each other, and are having fun.
So many players come to Vancouver and have commented on the cliquey nature, the fact that something feels "off" in the dressing room.
It's funny how the Canucks are almost an extension of the Vancouver culture in itself to a degree.

Might have to do with the high concentration of Americans on the team? Or people from out of country in general?
I could see a lot of American players that could be living for Pennies closer to family not appreciating the lifestyle here, and also the toxicity of the fans and media in Canadian hockey in general.
For players that grew up in Canada they knew what they were in for and perhaps even wanted that as they were interested in the spotlight, but the idea of living in Boston or Chicago or LA where no one knows who the fuck you are and you get 8 million bucks and get left alone no matter how shitty you're playing can seem pretty appealing.

To the point he shows up to games or practices tired.
*NURSE* lol. Can't waive him, can't send him to minors, can't trade. Well technically you can waive him but he gets his money regardless. ahha

Nurse isn't the burden he has been this season. He's honestly playing fantastic.

I am guessing because Nurse is on the second pairing. He plays less minutes, and not playing against top line of the opponent. He is also not on PP1 nor is he the go to defenseman in OT.

Miller won me over after I was fully pulling for Bo to stay. That said, if I had to choose, I’d take Petey. I don’t think Miller’s contract is going to age well in the latter years whereas Petey should be able to perform at peak levels throughout his before Father Time becomes an issue.
Petey is an elite talent, not saying Miller isn’t, but EP40 has produced more consistently since entering the league and I think moving him would become more costly to the organization than losing Miller at the end of the day.
Such a Canuck thing to have this issue though the tortured fanbase saga continues.

If there is a trade going down for the Canucks, it all depends on how the team plays in the upcoming games in late December.
Something has to give with the team. Rutherford showing up a recent team practice means all is not well in terms of the team chemistry or dare I say, Tocchet’s way of coaching the team now.

I like Tocchet, but he did say he was going to come up with new ways to run his offense in the off-season to adjust to how the league is after we failed to produce much shots in the playoffs last season... and so far things are even WORSE... we're last in the league for created offense and games like yesterday when you get 3 shots from the first period on is just mental.
If he did in fact devise new tactics, they are not working and he needs to go back to the drawing board.
I mean it's not like the dude doesn't know how to score, he has 440 career goals himself lol... scored in a different era, but 440 is nothing to sneeze at.
