It does not matter which team you cheer for.
Both McChicken and Meyers should get a suspension.

wished the league looked at the Minny game too, cuz McDavid wouldn't even be playing tonight lmao...

but man.. Miller got the assignment against McDavid again. I'd say thats a job well done :(

That made me LOL so hard, never heard a ref say that before

Was at the game tonight and being there in person allows you to see so much more and get a feel for the team's vibes. Some stray observations...

- Garland and Sherwood are gems
- Pettersson and Miller gave each other a pretty hard shove during one of the line changes, I'm pretty sure I wasn't the only one that saw
- At the moment I'm on team Miller even though Pettersson made some good plays, they're not 11M plays
- Team still doesn't have enough offensive killer instinct but played pretty good defensively even though they almost had a meltdown
- McDavid is an amazing player but he's really a big bitch sometimes

68style 01-18-2025 10:06 PM

Sherwood was going crazy cheering the boys on at the end of the game on the bench, he must be the coolest and most positive teammate to be around, such a gem.

Gumby 01-18-2025 10:14 PM

What McDavid did isn’t cool, but put yourself in his skates and imagine all the attention/abuse he gets every shift. You'd lose your cool too! Not everybody is a saint like the Sedins, lol.

People also said the same thing about Crosby.

bobbinka 01-18-2025 11:07 PM

nobody's elbowing him in the head or cross checking him to the face

even Crosby fights. i'm sure a big boy like McDavid could fight Garland

AzNightmare 01-18-2025 11:57 PM

It's actually good that Myers crosschecked Bouchard in the face. Because it forces the league to also review McDavid's crosscheck on Garland... If they want to suspend one, there's a strong case both need to get suspended on pretty much an identical play.

spoon.ek9 01-19-2025 06:14 AM

Imagine getting "mauled" by one of the smallest players in the league and crying about it lol. Both McDavid and Myers deserve a suspension for what they did. We'll see what the league actually does here; another no faith situation. I didn't even have the heart to watch the game last night. Very surprised we won with how things have been going.

whitev70r 01-19-2025 07:19 AM

I don't fault McDavid for that, I think many of you are interpreting the incident with Canucks bias. If it happened to Petey from a pesky player on another team, you'd say the guy deserved it for the obvious interference in the last minute of play. Who the hell cares if you win Lady Byng? I'd rather have a fiery player that responds to that shit and take the 2 game rest. Myers on the other hand ... I didn't see a lot of stuff before that cheap cross check to Bouchard.

Wes McAuley is such a boss. When he announces/explain penalties or reviews, that's entertainment itself.

spoon.ek9 01-19-2025 07:39 AM

a reaction to the holding, sure. a cross check to the face when he isn't even looking? of course that's not justified. plus, mcdavid took him down first. they both did things in that scrum with each other. myers cross checking bouchard in the face deserves a suspension. not sure what preceded that as i didn't watch the game, also not justified.

i don't think i've seen any canucks fan saying myers doesn't deserve a suspension. plenty of oilers fans think mcdavid did nothing wrong and was completely justified in cross checking garland in the face as if that's magically ok given the circumstances. regardless of what happens on the ice, you as a player are responsible for your actions. it doesn't even matter if you think the refs lost control of the game, players are still responsible for what they do. simple as that.

Tim Budong 01-19-2025 08:00 AM

A headshot is a headshot, its dangerous
thats about as far or as much I will say about that

Kevin Bieksa made a strong point after the stick work during the post-game analysis.

He said that you cannot get rid of fighting in the NHL because if that happens then you have players using their sticks for crosschecks and slashes to get back at their opponents.

McDavid being a McChicken is the bigger guy than Garland. He could have challenged Garland to a fight in response to what Garland did to him.

What does he do instead of fight Garland? McDiapers becomes a baby and chooses to crosscheck Garland in the face.

I mean man up and fight Garland if you want to defend yourself. That chicken shit decides to go with the easy route and crosscheck Garland.

Big bitch move from McChicken.

The ref Wes McAuley could have called the play dead and give Garland a penalty for holding too. -could have prevented the incident from escalating to crosschecks from McDavid and Myers.

Of course, the refs just let Garland and McDavid have their own wrestling match haha.

one game for both players. Carson Soucy got suspended one game last year cross-checking McDavid in the face. Also was at the end of the game scrum as well.

In the playoffs, 1 game = 3

Interesting.

In an article in the New York Post on Saturday, veteran reporter Larry Brooks shared that candidates to go to the Vancouver Canucks in a J.T. Miller deal would be 2020 first-overall pick Alexis Lafreniere as well as 23-year-old defenseman Branden Schneider.

Allvin gives certain teams permission to contact Miller about a trade.

No way. Both players deserved minor penalties for taking turns holding each other down. Or, in Garland's case, "trying" to hold McDavid down. If you think a head shot is deserved, I think you're the one with bias here.

What's funny here is that they both wanted to take the other down. McDavid wants to take down an easy smaller guy so his team gets a 6-on-4, while Garland wants to take McDavid down so his team gets to defend 5-on-5 with the best player on the planet out of play. The only thing McDavid is upset about is that he couldn't get back up in time to join the play to make it 6-on-4.

We have a fiery player on the team. His name is JT Miller and, in his time with Vancouver, I haven't seem him crosscheck somebody to the face.

The refs are the ones who really failed here, because they should've called the minor penalties on both players. Instead, there's now potentially 2 suspensions.

Hondaracer 01-19-2025 01:29 PM

One of the smallest players in the league wrestling the best player we’ve maybe ever seen who towers over him and that’s deserving a vicious cross check to the head? lol? No.

MarkyMark 01-19-2025 02:09 PM

I don't think there is any bias, crosschecking someone in the head is a bitch move. No one is defending Myers doing it, that was a bitch move too.

teggy604 01-19-2025 03:17 PM

Meyers sitting out for a few games might be a good thing? ahhaha

AzNightmare 01-20-2025 03:29 AM

Everyone can review the full sequence again. Garland checks McDavid, McDavid skates into him, leaned in for a bodycheck, then the scrum occurs.

Taking my homer glasses off, this seems very clear to me:
McDavid never held Garland down. It may have looked like it because McDavid had most of his body on top. But it's pretty obvious Garland had McDavid's left arm pinned underneath his body.

McDavid probably would not have lost balance after the hit, but we can clearly see Garland wraps his arm around McDavid's left arm and drags him down. Take note that Garland never lets go of this arm, even with McDavid on top afterward.
https://i.imgur.com/vSpQFLk.png

McDavid rolls on top, but his left arm is still trapped. Garland's trying to wrap both legs around McDavid's thigh. This is like BJJ at this point. It may look like McDavid has Garland pinned down now, but if you watch the video at this part (1:14), you can see McDavid's trying to lift his hips to get up but his left side is stuck (because Garland is still holding on to that arm)
https://i.imgur.com/BKjxV10.png

Everyone knows the rest from here on out. McDavid eventually breaks free, tries to skate away and Garland goes for a bearhug from behind and once again drags him down.

At no point in this scrum, did McDavid try to hold Garland down. It makes no sense logically either. He's trying to get back into the play to tie the game. Garland was playing desperate and knowing it was worth taking a penalty with so little time left. It was "sleazy" so I get why McDavid went for the crosscheck. Kind of like when Kesler sat on the puck near the end of one of his Duck's playoff games.

Regardless, suspensions should be coming... I don't know wtf Myers was doing, but he's not off the hook either.

68style 01-20-2025 06:50 AM

Dice and Ice was last night, some friends were at it… Miller was absent and every player asked about him not being there said he has food poisoning. Yah right.

unit 01-20-2025 07:21 AM

hmm i guess the announcers can see more than we can. i felt that there was plenty of blame to go around in that sequence, but still no excuse to crosscheck to the head. if ur pissed just give a crosscheck to the back or something or try to initiate a fight. garland may be short but i wouldnt really wanna fight the guy either, the guy is pretty tenancious

I heard Tocchet was missing as well.
