i think they just include it to give the illusion that there are 3 options, when really there are only 2.
IMO, since hockey is a significantly smaller market than soccer, the organization needs anything/everything it can to sell more things. having an animal/creature/thing gives you so much more to work with. also helps build life long fans with kids
and anyway... given that they already are the Utah Hockey Club, it's not like they can't still use it if they end up being the Utah Mammoths. You get the best of both worlds.

Yah I think it’s stupid too but soccer fans have shown you can still rally like absolute loons even without a mascot name hahaha
I had to look up what a Wasatch even is… indigenous name for a mountain pass. Doesn’t exactly stir the soul.

Apparently, State animal is Elk ... Utah Elks, not the greatest but even with that, it's still better than any of the 3 finalists.

Boqvist being waived by Florida. RHD chosen directly after Hughes back in 2018. Dude is most definitely looking like a bust but there's an argument to be made that he's probably still better than Juulsen/Deharnais lol. I think we could do worse with a guy in a $775,000 contract.

I think the goal should be to get someone young back in, rather than someone who is at the same level, and let someone else take over as leader.
So I am not getting my hopes up for a big name that will come in and lead them to The Cup.
I could be wrong though, this is just my thought on it
