Pretty classy in Montreal for the Flower ... this for a guy who never played as a Hab. 3 Cups, Olympic Gold, Vezina, Jennings, 5 time all star. Should get into HOF on 1st ballot.
I think the return is.... about as good as it was going to get. Major win with us retaining zero money and that's likely due to news about the cap going up every year for the next 3 years. I loved Miller during his time here but there were clearly issues with his anger management (stories about clashes with Bo, him losing it on our backup goalie, clashes with Petey and who knows what else we aren't aware of).
I don't think we got better as a whole because of these trades but we won't know the full extent of this until perhaps next season or beyond. Lots of dead cap space starting next season ($5.479M combined btwn OEL/Mikheyev). Miller is 31 and on a long contract at $8M. Logically speaking, it made sense to hedge our bets on Petey at 26. Whether or not that pans out will be the key to whether this decision was a win or not. Either way, someone had to go which is extremely disappointing.
yup, they're going to have to retool on the fly here to stay competitive. otherwise we risk losing Quinn too. that would be absolute disaster for this franchise so they better get their shit together.
In a post on social media on Saturday, the Vancouver Canucks announced that they've placed forward Phillip Di Giuseppe on waivers, while assigning Finnish rookie Aatu Raty to the American Hockey League's Abbotsford Canucks.
If Di Giuseppe clears waivers at 11 am PT on Sunday, which is the most likely scenario, he'll also be assigned to Abbotsford of the AHL
This can be common when struggling star players get traded. No doubt Miller's a beast when he's 100% on.
The problem is he was long gone before the trade. He wasn't motivated to play in a Canuck jersey any more. It wouldn't have made a difference if Canucks held on to him.
In some ways, I feel this may potentially be the same outcome with EP40. If he suddenly rips it up in 4 Nations, I wouldn't even be surprised.

PDG on waivers, I don't think Tocchet gonna like that lol. Satiar Shah is reporting Canucks are looking for impact winger so there's likely a 3rd act coming to this recent trade show.
The way things have gone, the only true untouchable we have is Hughes. They would be wise to do everything in their power to keep the guy happy. He is hands down the best defenseman this franchise has ever seen and climbing up the ranks at such a rapid pace.
Dude is only 25 and breaking all sorts of records throughout our history. Albeit, that speaks to how shit our defense has been but he is the true superstar #1 dman we've always dreamed about. Seriously, all hope is lost if they somehow manage to lose this guy.
Everything they do from now on will be in service of building around Quinn Hughes and keeping him as the leader of the team. That includes getting rid of JT
It's up to Quinn to step up as the leader, not Petey. Petey is the gunner
