Wonder what Thompson's deal is... Scheifele has always seemed to have a massive ego problem

What did Petey have, 2 shots on goal all tournament? No points, demoted to a 4th line plug.

11.2M player, highest on his team, relegated to a 4th line plug :lol

I hope we rid ourselves of this guy before July.

Sounds like Hughes is healthy enough to replace McAvoy as the 7th Dman.

Just waiting for their 6th Dman to be conveniently sick on game day so Hughes can play.

-sounds like Quinn really wants to play with his brother Jack in the championship game on Thursday.

I have mixed emotions about Hughes potentially playing on Thursday. Although I am happy to see him have the chance to play in a big game with his brother Jack, I would rather see him stay in Vancouver and watch the game on TV.

Stay healthy at home to help the Canucks and Team Canada haha.

spoon.ek9 02-18-2025 12:19 PM

His decision to remove himself from the team was already gut wrenching and selfless. If he feels like he's ok to play one game, I'd give him the benefit of the doubt here. He's earned it.

MarkyMark 02-18-2025 12:42 PM

Doesn't one of the other D-men need to fake an injury or illness for Hughes to play? Obviously not a hard thing to do but it'll be funny when so and so drops out for whatever reason and Hughes jumps in.

Yes. Team USA must declare that another d-man besides Charlie McAvoy cannot play due "illness or injury before Hughes can practice with the team and play against Canada on Thursday.

McAvoy has an "upper body injury" from the reports that I see online. He's in a hospital.

If another d-man becomes "ill" or "injured" and Hughes plays on Thursday, the Americans faked injury or illness for sure.

What's the point of having rules for the Four Nations Face-Off if a team is going to exploit a loophole to circumvent the rules?

If the Americans announce that another d-man is not playing on Thursday because of illness or injury, I would like to know the reason for that player to not play the game.

For example, another d-man gets sick from food poisoning.
Bad clam chowder in Boston? LUL

One day, team USA will have on the ice:

Tkachuk-Hughes-Tkachuk
Hughes-Hughes

What Canada needs to do is to start giving citizenship to some good Goalies, lol.

bobbinka 02-18-2025 01:04 PM

Looks like this got buried behind the 4-nations stuff, Drew O'Connor gets 2 x $2.5mil extension

spoon.ek9 02-18-2025 01:15 PM

yup, saw that news too. I like the kid, he's done well in his short time here. I would have liked the number to be a bit lower but with the cap going way up and the term being only 2 years, it's a fair deal IMO.

I don't mind the Hughes brothers, but the Tkachuks are so fucking cocky...

bobbinka 02-18-2025 02:14 PM

Demko LBI, will not travel with team for road trip.

Can't extend Lankinen fast enough

SkinnyPupp 02-18-2025 02:29 PM

Demko's career has taken a very sad turn Sadge

punkwax 02-18-2025 02:34 PM

The curse of the Canucks is alive and well.

I agree. Canucks are fighting for a wild card spot, and last thing we need is a tired or injured Hughes. If the Canucks are dead last in the standings, then sure whatever Hughes can go play.

whitev70r 02-18-2025 03:53 PM

This tournament means a lot to these players to be able to suit up for their country. Even the elder statesman Crosby who has played on Team Canada for how many times, he was injured, off Pitts roster the whole week leading up to the tourney and then he was good to go. We might not understand what it means but some players will do anything to play in something like this as it doesn't happen every year. I mean it's as if Crosby would do anything to put on same jersey and play with his Halifax boy MacKinnon.

So imagine Hughes, Hughes and Hughes ... when would the brothers get a chance to all suit up with the same jersey and play for their country!

It's also cause the NHL hasn't gone to the last 2 Olympics. The current era of players have never got to play in a best-on-best tournament. Crosby/McDavid/McKinnon is a dream team for both players and fans. Next Olympics might be Crosby's last time on the international stage.

The players also know that this is a test/sampler for future World Cup tournaments, so there's an incentive to hype up the game. They want it to be successful cause it'll mean the possibility for future games. They'd rather be doing this than going to the all-stars weekend. The Tkachuks know how to put on a show.

It's both the Hughes and the Tkachuks. They're really good childhood friends. All making it to the NHL is already pretty crazy. To have the opportunity to represent your country altogether on the same team is the ultimate dream come true. It's no wonder Hughes had such a hard time deciding whether to play or not.

Tim Budong 02-18-2025 08:16 PM

Jury still out there on Luke Hughes, but he'll have a spot on that team unless something goes terribly wrong.

as for Tkachuk's being cocky... they've definitely earned that title and definitley proud to skate onto the ice for it.

FEAR THE TKACHUK BOYS

spoon.ek9 02-19-2025 01:22 PM

Looks like Hughes hasn't been medically cleared and will not join team usa. The flu is apparently ripping through the locker rooms so guys are sick as well as banged up. From a medical perspective, I do wonder how many of them (from all four teams) are vaccinated. Just for the sake of curiousity lol.

bobbinka 02-19-2025 04:29 PM

not medically cleared, but practicing with team and expected to play on Saturday? lol

Tim Budong 02-19-2025 05:42 PM

regular practice jersey today too.
they'll clear him medically on Saturday morning. hahahaha

As per Elliotte Friedman, the Canucks don't want him to go is his feeling

Gumby 02-19-2025 07:21 PM

Well, Team USA management can tell one of their defensemen to be "sick", just as easily as Canucks management can tell the team doctors to not clear Hughes...

Unfortunately, that sucks for Hughes if he is well enough to play on Thursday's game though.

Yeah, it was a weird headline to make sense of. The day before, he was in a no contact practice jersey, then yesterday he was in a full contact jersey. So there's definitely something going on that is preventing him from joining team usa in boston lol. I was trying to figure it out yesterday with a friend :lol

68style 02-20-2025 06:16 AM

He can go play in the Olympics next year, not this relatively meaningless tournament.

spoon.ek9 02-20-2025 06:21 AM

for sure, it will most definitely not be his only shot to play for the team. this is just that first taste of "best on best" in quite some time.
