I guess it depends how much the owner is in the ear of the GM. Is he telling Allvin he has to sign certain players etc or is the GM truly running the show?

Aquaman does spend to the cap so I guess he gets credit for that, but if you're handcuffing your GM on certain moves then the owner is to blame for sure.

Hondaracer 03-24-2025 07:01 AM

We’ve had absentee owners, we’ve had engaged owners, we’ve had the Aquilinis. Don’t think it really makes much of a difference.

The argument that all he wants is 2 playoff games is so dumb like if the guys main concern was playoff revenue, you don’t think he’d want a perennial playoff team as opposed to a team that can barely make the playoff year after year?

As much as people shit on Aqualini I can’t think for a second he’s that dumb.

I think the shitty state of the Canucks right now falls on Rutherford and Allvin's shoulders more than Aquaman, there just isn't enough good players in the different positions.

+1. I agree. Allvin and Rutherford definitely deserve some criticism for the way that they constructed this team and how they are handling contracts of current players.

Allvin told the media on the trade deadline day that they did not receive any good offers from other GMs for Boeser. -heard stories that the Allvin was looking to get a first round pick plus a prospect for Brock.

Did Allvin and Rutherford goof up my misjudging the value of Boeser in their trade negotiations with other GMs?

Canucks are going to lose either way from not getting at least a second round pick for Brock.

The biggest hurdle in the contract negotiations between Allvin and Boeser's agent is contract term. Canucks are offering a 5 year contract, at $8 million US per season. Boeser and his agent want a six year contract.

If the Canucks sign Boeser to a contract, we would get a winger with inconsistent performance each season and is not a fast skater. Boeser cannot generate enough scoring chances on his own. He needs a playmaker.

Does management really think that this team can become a championship contender within the next five years with Boeser as one of your top forwards? Hmm. This team may not even make the playoffs this season even with Boeser on the team.

If Boeser signs with another team during free agency starting on July 1st, the Canucks lose a player with nothing in return in terms of draft picks.

Allvin and Rutherford made a major error in not trading Boeser for assets.

Many people also know that Linden had major disagreements with Aquaman when Linden was the head of hockey operations.

Linden's strategy to rebuild the team, as head of hockey operations, was to build through draft picks. Aquaman was opposed to a full rebuild because guess what his pockets would get less money from lower ticket sales with a team rebuild based on drafting.

We know how the rest of the story goes in terms of management turnover for the Canucks. Linden resigns as head of hockey operations. Canucks keep Dim Jim, Jim Benning as GM. Benning overpays for depth players on third and fourth lines, overpays to sign an aging defenceman in Oliver Eckman-Larsson, and mismanages the team's salary cap in a horrible fashion.

The hiring of Benning may have included input from Aquaman before Benning became part of team management. Although Benning made some great draft picks with Hughes, Petey, and Demko, his record as a GM in signing free agents and managing team salary cap is abysmal. Was Dim Jim a puppet of Aquaman?

What if Aquaman agreed with Linden's strategy of rebuilding the Canucks through draft picks instead of rebuilding the team on the fly to create a mediocre team? :considered: We will never know that outcome.

Almost everyone save for a couple of players overachieved last year.

Almost everyone save for a couple of players underachieved this year.

That's pretty much all there is to it tbh.......

Brock thinking he can get $8M a season because he scored 40 goals last year is redonk, he's a 30 goal guy at best and even then he requires, like mentioned above, another $10M player next to him to distribute pucks and cover for his ass. I like the guy but he needed to go for whatever they could get for him. Him being besties with Hughes and Petey is going to hurt us both short and long-term.

Maybe I missed something, but why is everyone talking like Suter is no chance to re-sign?

I think it's more that there's really no incentive for a player to re-sign now rather than wait for July 1st to see what the offers are and potentially either get a better deal elsewhere or use it as leverage with the current team. But if you make it to FA, the team will have other options planned out.

He's 28, so it might be the biggest contract he'll be able to get in his career?

It's interesting that his Detroit contract was $6.5M for 2 seasons... what the hell were they thinking? Then he signs for $1.6M here. They must have really saw something in him haha... he only got 60 points in 2 full seasons there... ouch.

Ugh looking at player stats on the team... didn't realize Boeser is -24 this year!!! AWFUL.

teggy604 03-24-2025 03:16 PM

I already mentioned that Boeser plus minus is horrible. He doesn't gel with anyone except Miller.

Looks like Ep40 and hog are returning back to Vancouver.

Eatman 03-24-2025 06:27 PM

Man, this was an intense game... team battled hard for these 2 pts

bobbinka 03-24-2025 06:28 PM

so basically Hughes plays the last 5 minutes of every game and all of OT :lol

Hondaracer 03-24-2025 06:28 PM

A sliver of hope lol

Jason00S2000 03-24-2025 06:30 PM

Fuuuuck my favourite Canucks twitter account is suspended... the game was a nail-biter:

Man, projections.. team needs to win 8 of the next 11 games in order to make the playoffs.. if there's any time to go on a hot streak, it's now. Demko is back, so there's a chance?

:lol :lol :lol

AzNightmare 03-24-2025 07:41 PM

It's going to be tough to jump over St.Louis.
They have the easiest schedule and they're red hot right now with 6 wins in a row.

Gotta inject some PED in Hughes and throw him out there for 40mins every game. lol

teggy604 03-25-2025 07:24 PM

keifun 03-25-2025 07:50 PM

Lames won too. back down to 5pts out

Hondaracer 03-25-2025 08:34 PM

Suter's coming off of a career year, and with the salary cap increase, he's going to receive a massive contract. Someone's going to offer him 4-5M with term, and the Canucks can't afford to pay another 3rd liner that much $$$.

We need Raty to make the jump next year.

AzNightmare 03-26-2025 09:47 AM

lol, this St.Louis team is like trying to repeat 2019.
7 in a row now.

I think I heard they've been the best team since 4 Nations.

spoon.ek9 03-26-2025 05:28 PM

That must have felt good for Raty scoring against his former club :D

This was a brief topic of discussion on Canucks Army, the thought (not rumour) of BoHo coming back to the Canucks. Honestly, I'm not against it. We need a 2C and he would fit the role nicely and Miller is gone so their rumoured rift would no longer be an issue lol. We need a faceoff winning center and he can still play the bumper spot on PP1 as needed. More than likely it'll never happen but it's kind of fun to imagine it.

bobbinka 03-26-2025 05:46 PM

as the team is now, i wouldn't want to trade back for him cause it doesn't really solve much. he's not going to help Petey's production.

as wild as it is, if we can land Mitch Marner to play with Petey, then i would be totally on board with bringing back Horvat to play the hard minutes. coupled with our refreshed D-care and a healthy Demko/Lank tandem, ooohhh my gaddd, plan the parade.

Eatman 03-26-2025 05:54 PM

man, Demko is back to original form.. he's looking real good the last couple of games
