Sherwood is sick for yahoo fantasy leagues, basically guaranteed W in the hit column

as wild as it is, if we can land Mitch Marner to play with Petey, then i would be totally on board with bringing back Horvat to play the hard minutes. coupled with our refreshed D-care and a healthy Demko/Lank tandem, ooohhh my gaddd, plan the parade.

Man if they can land Marner.... highly doubt it but we can dream right? Lol

Why would you want another small forward that disappears in the playoffs though? Especially when he probably wants $14M a season.

Guy is one of the most gifted offensive players in the league and skates like the wind, but he’s not serious and he’s a waif.

I see the Canucks are doing their annual probably won’t make the playoffs but we’re going to draft at 15 instead of top 10 just because? Pride? Next yearsies?

whitev70r 03-27-2025 06:12 AM

^ this. Canucks already has a small disappearing forward for the playoffs. You really want a competition to see who can be more invisible?!

NHL News. Poor Torts.

Flyers fire John Tortorella.

No surprise about this firing.

-from Sportsnet:

The Philadelphia Flyers are making a coaching change.

The Flyers announced Thursday that they have fired John Tortorella and that associate head coach Brad Shaw will replace him in the interim.

Tortorella, 66, was brought in as the Flyers coach back in June 2022. During his time in Philadelphia, Tortorella went 97-107-3

Torts always has an abrupt expiry shelf life. I think there are 2 teams left that he has not been fired from, he could still have a job next season.

68style 03-27-2025 06:16 AM

Torts last interview sounded like he’d completely given up.

Philly gonna try to land Tocchet, former player and for some reason extremely wanted around the league right now.

whitev70r 03-27-2025 08:06 AM

So, the biggest question, why fire Tortorella with 9 games left?

Media speculation links Tocchet to Flyers with club option left on Canucks contract

https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/speculation-l...ract-1.2277619

After the Philadelphia Flyers fired John Tortorella on Thursday, media speculation quickly linked Vancouver Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet to his former team.

Hondaracer 03-27-2025 08:10 AM

The flyers situation is even worse than the Canucks lol.

I think they will give Toch whatever Hughes wants him to get

bobbinka 03-27-2025 09:57 AM

For his hypothetical Horvat return scenario, I simply picked Marner just cause he'd be the top producer available in UFA. I'm saying we need significantly more than that 2C, we need scoring.

teggy604 03-27-2025 12:49 PM

I can see Flyers playing Tocchet style of hockey alot more than the Canucks.

Maybe they can bring Bruce back and if they decided to keep ep40 he can start to play his style of hockey.

bobbinka 03-27-2025 01:30 PM

Management wants structure, so I don't think they'd bring Bruce back. Also, given how his exit was handled, I don't know he'd want to come back.

Toch has built his coaching staff the way he wants, so maybe he'd want to stay for that. He'd have to start fresh with Philly and they're no where near making playoffs. Even if he wants to coach in Philly, it would probably make more sense a few years later after they dig themselves out of the bottom.

spoon.ek9 03-27-2025 01:42 PM

I think it would be foolish to let Tocchet walk at this point. They've built the entire team around his system from players to personnel. It would be a shit show to try to plug and play some other coach into this situation and expect good results. He literally just won the Jack Adams last year and for whatever reason they let him be a lame duck coach all season long and now have to be concerned about how Philly might be used as leverage against their best interests.

I know we've seen a lot of hate recently towards Tocchet but I think that's just the reactionary fans looking for someone to point the finger at.

whitev70r 03-27-2025 02:31 PM

Apparently, it's Tochett's contract extension year so writer is suggesting he now has leverage in talks.

Yah ...no way they bring back 'Bruce, there it is' ...it'd be going backwards 2 yrs.

pastarocket 03-27-2025 02:54 PM

Many questions about this Canucks team after this season is over:

Is Boeser playing for another team once free agency starts or does he remain a Canuck?

Will Tocchet remain the head coach?

Although Demko has played well since his return from injury, it's only been a small sample size of two games. Who is the No. 1 goalie for next season?

68style 03-27-2025 03:18 PM

Demko is #1 by any metric, no question in my mind.

But Lank allows them to do like a 60:40 split of games and keep
His workload way way down. Assuming he doesn’t get hurt again… which is pretty much a given at this point it seems.

At the time, Bruce also mentioned he was no longer on speaking terms with Rutherford with the way he was treated. There's no way in hell he would come back to this management team.

With his injuries, it'll be 60 Lank, 40 Demko :lol

Everytime he went post to post or did the splits last game made me wince.

Ovie told his team mates to get back on to the ice after a loss to the Wild so that the Caps players shake hands with Marc-Andre Fleury.

Very classy move from the Capitals.

Legend Ovechkin recognizing a legend in Fleury.

Man, Blues won again... Calgary losing though

whitev70r 03-27-2025 07:27 PM

Philadelphia beats Montreal 6-4 a game after Torts was let go :lol.

keifun 03-27-2025 07:29 PM

Blues keep winning. We are again 5pts back.

teggy604 03-27-2025 07:44 PM

Tocchet did mention something during an interview, that he is working to "re-train" EP40 brain for more North style of hockey.

I just don't know how long it would take and will it actually work. I mean all EP40 knows is his hockey knowledge growing up playing in Sweden. IMO you are better off trading EP40, and getting a hockey player that you don't need to "reprogram."

What's the leverage? Is it just money between owner and the coach?
The money doesn't contribute toward any team caphit and for the most part, a coach's salary is "peanuts" compared to what owners are paying top players.

IMO, isn't it really just a "you want him or not" situation?
