The contract was signed by the Coyotes not Benning and I guess you can now say Utah is also paying him on top of the Canucks since the retained a bit of money when he was traded to the Canucks. It's crazy to think even tho the leafs are only paying him 3.5 hes still making close to 8 mill because of the buy out LOL

Yeah, Benning's trade for OEL to play for our Canucks was Dim Jim's way to get rid of one player in Loui Eriksson for a dud of a D man.
OEL's stats for his two seasons with the Canucks:
2021-2022: 29 points, +5.
2022-2023: 22 points, -24.
The only bright spot of that OEL trade was getting a good forward in Garland.
A $19.3 million US buyout of OEL.

Some people are saying the cap will rise to $92M for the 25-26 season, so might be room created that way lol

that's why GMs went balls to the walls with these UFA contracts. they know the cap will continue to go up so I guess they don't mind making what seems like mistakes right now.
makes me extra grateful that Canucks management isn't falling into this trap. If our window to win is the next 4-5 years (perhaps longer) then we'll be in good position to make bigger signings/trades down the line rather than he tied down by poorly aging contracts.
one can hope anyways...

And GM goes ball to the wall because they are pressured to win NOW ... who knows if they'll last 1 or 2 or 3 yrs or get fired ... let the next GM deal with the bad contract.

that's why I absolutely hated Benning. his last deals weren't about making the team better in the long run, it was about saving his job. the job he had fucked up so badly for years already...

Oh to be a avg D man who gets a big contract one time ... OEL should be sending Christmas present to Benning every year. | I believe it's quite the opposite of a lump sum you get paid 2/3 of the remaining salary already twice the remaining time on the contract to. So OEL had what 4 years left? Then he would be paid 2/3 what we owed him over 8 years and I think it's even less money if they're under a certain age.

A $19.3 million US buyout of OEL. | tbh, at the given time, everything was great, except the price paid and the contract length, just he became a huge dud under whatever sytem the canucks had deployed after 2 coaches

So I bought a few playoff tickets through Ticketmaster, nothing special, couple lower bowl games and I got transferred an upper bowl game
This woman has been calling me from the Canucks a couple times and I’ve always been busy so I told her it’s a bad time. She’s finally reached out via email and she’s offering what is basically a concierge service for the Canucks to me? Lol
Dunno if these are paid agents or what but she said if I need tickets, interested in seasons etc. contact her directly? Kinda weird

| The Official 2024/2025 Canucks & NHL Thread
The Canucks and VPD need to do something to protect DeBrusk and his partner from a deranged “fan.”
Apparently, the Bruins banned this psycho bitch from TD Garden. Boston police were also involved at the time Jake played for that team. https://www.canucksdaily.com/nhl-tea...-in-vancouver?
During his tenure with the Boston Bruins, DeBrusk faced troubling attention from a fan who was ultimately banned from TD Garden to keep her away from him and his partner, Mia.
This fan, Jan, has now reappeared on social media platform X, expressing plans to follow DeBrusk to Vancouver.
Also @Canucks she has admitted that the Bruins had her banned and that the Boston Police Department had to get involved. She threatens Jake & and his gf Mia like ‘Why does she deserve protection,' lots of bad karma coming her way» and ‘Jake will pay for it'

That's a SERIOUS stalker who will follow him to another city in another country. Debrusk prob thought ... 'Finally, I'm getting out of Boston and this cray cray, gone girl, psycho fan ...'.
There might be some possibility or reason for Canadian government banning her if she has a record of stalking and/or restraining order.

that's a freaking steal of a contract. everyone is still buying in as a group to leave money on the table for long term success. love to see it!

Agreed ... all of the good $850K, $2-4M AAV contracts won't be remembered if the $11.6M AAV one doesn't perform to expectation.

I love Silovs and thought he played well in the playoffs but let's not forget he had fewer than 10 NHL games under his belt before being thrown to the wolves. So I think $850k/year is fair.

DeSmith was an absolute bargain last year... Silovs is a bargain as a back-up now... like the pay I think matches his experience level, but we know he's pretty damn good and to have a Vezina calibre starting goalie and a super solid almost carried us past the Oilers back-up signed together for ~$6M... that's quite a bit less than most teams are paying for just a starter.
