What car should I get? thread Must-haves: -EV -hauls the family, plus Grandma too (min 6 seats) -AWD Nice-to-haves: -urban offroading (curb-hopping no problem) -actual offroading -panoramic moonroof -CEO is not a dick Budget: -max 80k before tax & rebates (hopefully less, hopefully a lot less) I can't come up with anything but EV9 and VW Buzz. Can anyone think of anything else? |
Buy something used and wait for R3 to come out? :alone: You have very few choices and if I remember correctly you've already been down the Rivian R1 road |

Kia makes an ev9 ? https://www.kia.ca/en/shopping-tools...sElectric=true Maybe the ceos a dick like Elon. |
EV9s are nice but I'm not sure if dealer markups are still rampant despite seeing more FB listings for new units. I don't think there's anything else under $80k that can seat 6 in the new car market right now. Maybe give Brantford Kia shout? Any reason it has to be an EV? Something like a mid-spec $60k Trailsport Pilot will give you a sizable budget for gas over the next few years while more 6-7 seater EV options arrive. |

Personally, I would look pass the dick CEO issue, but that is just me. |
Besides dick CEO, it doesn't fit his off-roading nice to haves in any way, shape or form. |
Ioniq 5N. Toss grandma in trunk! |
Best CEO, it has air suspension so you can just jack it up |
There's really slim pickings with EV + 6 seats and no Tesla. EV9, Rivian R1S, and.... I'm drawing a blank. Being in Toronto, a PHEV isn't going to cut it for you either. I think Europe and Asia has more choices but I have no idea why it's so bad here. PS: Oh Volvo is bringing their EX90, that's pretty sweet. |

R1S and EX90 are both over 100k so it's quite a stretch from an 80K budget. Volvo's doing a road show at the dealers - not sure if they've made their way to Ontario yet. Asia has way more choices via the Chinese EV Minivans - Zeekr 009, Denza D9, Maxus MIFA9 etc. |
Yeah you outta options for 6 seats and that budget. Used iX? But thats 5seater. EQS? 6 seat but above budget. EV9 seems ideal if you can find one. They’re clearing out 2023 F150 lightning platinum for $80k if that works |

There's also the nerd factor where the body is CFRP. A used iX 50 at 75k won't be loaded, but it'll also have most of the wants checked off as well. In BC, the 5% tax on the iX makes it a great buy compared to new at over 120k out the door. Too bad he needs 6 seats. |

I don't know anything about EVs but I came here to say that I hope this doesn't turn into my multi-paged "what car should I buy" thread LOL RS' advice is dope! Plus I know you like reading, so I'll link it for ya. Good luck in your search! |

Buy a beater caravan. Keep money for the occasional transmission failure and then take the rest of the money for gas and a fun sports car |

Throw in a couple E46M seats in the box for grandma and her plus one then you're good to go! |
