Getting older fucking sucks in terms of recovery fuck
Had the same cold everyone had but was just congested but still didn’t want to go to the gym etc. as a courtesy
Then I get back for a few days, go hunting where I obviously overindulged in booze and food but still hiked 10-12,000 steps a day in high altitude
Come back and do a “boot camp” my gym was doing, great workout but totally fucking brutal recovery lower body is done so sore, next day do a heavy upper body workout and manage to trap a nerve in my neck/shoulder and it’s debilitating, can’t get the 3rd day back in the gym ffs..
Sucks when you actually have motivation and drive and other shit fucks with you.. still hovering around 212 or so from initial 218/220
I just turned 40 recently but I switched to lighter weights and higher reps in my late 30s and haven't looked back. I was getting too many nagging injuries trying to lift heavy weights at lower reps. I haven't noticed a difference in muscle mass either as long as you're still pushing yourself.

I need to do this, I'm always injured haha. In the last year, Torn Rotator, injured Achilles, pulled a hamstring and right now I'm dealing with Golfers elbow but I don't play golf.

So I've actually gone back to the gym recently after a hiatus since covid (I had a work gym that I used everyday before)
The first two workouts were brutal. I couldn't walk properly for like 2 days and could barely lift the kids cause I was so sore. I was benching 95lbs vs my peak of 155lb (3 reps), and squatted 115lbs vs my peak of 225lbs (5 reps). I know it's not the same since I was doing 10 rep sets, but damn I don't think I can do on rep of benching 120lbs or squatting 150 right now.
Then my son wanted to learn biking, so I went to the Killarney oval and ran with him while he biked laps. I ran 5 laps and walked like 6. My legs were sore for 2 days.
Yesterday I ran along the riverside trail down by the old river district, there and back, while he biked. I'm not sore today so it's an improvement. My cardio is still shit though.
umm... to make everyone feel better, i am still around 170 LOL... fml fml fml fml, running out of time.... its X mas okay guys?! still 2 months!!!
Hey that’s good ! 170 is better than 190. That’s a big improvement. If I can get rid of my last 20lbs I’ll be pretty lean. Not like donk kinda negative body fat % lean but lean enough that I can take my shirt off and not be embarrassed.

I have tennis elbow. Man, it's WAY worse than I expected. I haven't recovered for like 4 months now. I just can't rest it long enough to make any progress.
I've cut back huge on the booze. I can't say I look better yet, but I feel clearer and less sore for sure. However, nervous to slip back into the habit. Abstinence may be my only option. It's so easy to say no to when you haven't had any in a while, and so easy to say yes to when it's habitual.
I did break the sober(ish) life though when I was in Vegas last weekend though with a fuckin bang though, so probably will end up with the same monthly intake in only 2 days lol.

down 7lbs in the last month. since my last update i switched up my workouts. went from hitting each muscle group once a week doing heavy weight lower reps to twice a week doing lower weight higher reps. im still walking an hour a day on the treadmill everyday but ive cut out the extra commute walking because its getting cold/wet and i dont like it. went back to shadow boxing because my body/joints is not liking the added stress/shock. it feels good to walk around a little lighter and being able to do 15+ body weight pull ups at will is pretty sweet.
- According to this 200lbs @ 15% - > 193lbs @ 12% bodyfat @ 6'3!
- Officially 6 months post-pec tear and I think I'm going to start pushing my chest again, the tendon feels strengthened and I'll try going to close to failure
- Starting to get delt / arm separation and striations on the entire shoulder. Maybe veiny shoulder / arms are coming at 195!

In the last 24 days I've had a drink on 3 of them.
That's instead of about 21 of those days. I'm not particularly a heavy drinker, but two beers on an average day adds up fast. I've had about 6 drinks in that time instead of about 35-40. Big impact on the overall body feel, soreness.
I do wish it had a little more impact on the mental side of things, but body fat and weight are going down so confidence is up which is a start, and just not feeling like I'm a 39 year old alcoholic is pretty good too.

There’s nothing worse than alcohol for you imo but there’s also nothing better than a nice 3 beer buzz lol.
A good friend of mine in Toronto is a giant, he’s like 6’5 probably 280lb? Fairly athletic guy not a marathoner by any means but a big fucker. Sometimes on the weekends when we’re gaming etc. he’ll have been drinking all day to get an average buzz and he’s on like drink 15-20
Conservatively that’s like 4000 empty calories lol

We also had a co worker who can only drink bud light or some crappy drink.. no idea why but at happy hour, we would get 3 and call it done, he's on his 7th and then asks for 2 more before the cut off and still functions fine.

For that reason I try to drink on an empty stomach.
Even then, I've been tryna not to drink that much because of hangovers and empty calories. I try my best to limit myself MAX 1x a week for 3-5+ nights if it's a birthday or something worth drinking for. Have been trying to keep it clean by hard liquor only and 100 cal drinks. But a beer slaps so hard

I just fuckin love beer. I don't even really want to get drunk at all but the 2 beer buzz and some shit talk is so good.
Like you said 15-20 beers is like 4000 calories and I've essentially cut out like 5k calories in 3 weeks which will definitely have a good impact.

i really do enjoy a cold beer. i find coming from the tap at a restaurant in a cold glass, i can't get that same feeling/temp when i try to do it at home, they must have it set to a colder setting. but ya i try to avoid buying beer at home as they go down too easy and lots of calories.

I think chilling the glass makes a big difference.
With that said lately I've noticed I prefer my coke with ice, even when it's already cold enough. Maybe the extra bit of water dilutes the coke just enough? Or it's like whiskey where a tiny bit of water makes it more fragrant? I may never know.
