2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France Put it all here. Pretty creative to have Opening Ceremony not in a traditional stadium but to send the festivities and athletes down the Seine River ... at least it sounds creative. Let's see how it actually pans out and the security measures. |
Lyles will win 2 gold medals this Olympics, in at least 2 of the following: -100m (likely) -200m (guaranteed) -400m relay |
Really liking this opening ceremony with the parade of the athletes down the river and the performances. Genius really from a marketing perspective for tourism. A stadium is a stadium is a stadium but wow they took advantage of the global stage and selling the city of Paris hard. Found it amusing they jammed the massive Canadian team and the also massive Chinese team on the same boat while so many other boats came out 80% empty. Also the South Korea team being announced incorrectly loll. |
Apparently the athlete village food situation has been quite a scandal. These are the best of the best atheletes we have in the world, and the geniuses that organized the food and meal plans wasn't even providing enough proteins to feed the athletes bcos they wanted to be more environmentally conscious?!? What a bunch of woke idiots... |
eh it's France, Let them eat cake. Watching the Opening right now....waiting for Celine Dion to show up and totally fuck shit up. |
Holy fck. The flying flame had me literally gasping. and now Celine Dion!! |
The commentator said it was filled with Hydrogen. Really? Hindenburg anyone? lol. Oh the Humanity! And wow, I'm usually stoic AF but Celine showing up almost....almost had me in tears. |
Damn the opening was fantastic, really well done |
is it available free to stream anywhere (legally)? and wtf with canadian women soccer coach and a drone? :suspicious: |

Rewatched the opening with my wife skimming through most of the team introductions etc. that is one of my favorite openings I’ve seen and I’ve been a huge Olympics fan since Atlanta really maybe even before that |

Damn ... Rick Westhead from TSN is reporting about the Men's and Women's Soccer drone spying scandal ... when Westhead is THE journalist for sports scandals. Women's team head coach Bev Priestman already banned for one year. |
Hong Kong's first gold medal this year already! Their third in history (2020 for fencing, 1996 for sailing) Vivian Kong, fencing https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GTimWlabEAAv80S.jpg Looking forward to watching more fencing, as well as swimming and table tennis for some more medals! |
If you guys want non-pc entertainment, go on instagram, find the opening ceremony video, and read the comments |

Watching field hockey without commentary. Decent sport! |
Japanese judoka Uta Abe just lost her first match since 2019 and second match since 2016. And then she had a complete fucking meltdown that lasted like 5 minutes. It was really uncomfortable to watch. A comeback would make for a good story |
The men's basketball team of Canada played a hard fought game against Greece. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was clutch! SGA made clutch buckets with step back 3's and layups when the game was close late in the fourth quarter. RJ Barrett with a team high 23 points. Greece played good defence. However, they only have Giannis as their main scoring option. Greek Freak had 34 points. On to the next game vs. Australia on Tuesday! Although Canada is in the group of Death with strong teams like Australia and Spain, I think that this team can get to the knockout games and win a medal. Is anyone here a tennis fan? Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz won their opening match in doubles. Rafa plays his long time rival Djokovic in singles in a second round match. A clash of two tennis GOATs. FeelsGoodMan |
Crazy, Gold in Judo this morning and a dominant performance by Summer Mcintosh for gold in the 400m medley, crazy performance |

HK wins 2 more medals today! Another gold in fencing for Ka Long Cheung (he won gold in Tokyo as well) so they're tied with Canada for gold medals! And Bronze in 200m freestyle for Siobhan Haughey, her third Olympic medal, making her the most decorated Olympic athlete in HK. It's been fun to watch HK at the last couple Olympics - In Tokyo they tripled their historic medal total by winning 6, and now they have 3 already. Currently ranked #10 in the medal standings, since it's based on gold medals (I know Americans like to pretend it's based on overall, but it's not - that's just used as a tie breaker) |
