Whats your ultimate GT/road trip car?

Mission brief:

You plan on driving all over Canada in all types of weather for days to weeks at a time. What vehicle are you choosing?

Lexus Ratrolla of course.

Top up, top down, doesn't matter the climate control is enough to even keep you warm in sub zero temps. Big v8 with enough revs (7300rpm redline) and torque to have fun if the road gets twisty, but muted enough to do sub 1500rpm while cruising at 120km/h.

Oh and reliable as a Japanese clock. No need to worry about it crapping out along the way.

Supremely comfortable and technologically adequate (you get apple car play so that's pretty much all you need).

With wife only, do everything very comfortably with minimal constraints? Probably a X5 m50i
With wife only, a fun car and and we can pack efficiently? 911 GTS in manual

With the kids, X5 m50i or Odyssey. I think I'd probably pick the X5. The split tail gate is amazing. There's enough space if we stay in a hotel. Camping for a week would be tough.

Realistically, GM luxury full size SUV, yukon or escalade.
Comfortable with magnaride, Reliable, cheap and widely available parts, plentiful dealer networks across north america. Can run on regular gas.
Has a block heater, good luck starting a ratrolla or high performance suv in -43C in the prairies.

Unrealistic, bentley continental GT/Bentayga or range rover.

E450 wagon if I'm being "realistic" (bring the family) but a 911 otherwise (go by myself)

Realistically, same as Evofire between a B58 SUV (X5 / X7) or a Honda Odyssey. I've road tripped a few times with a X7 and it's plenty comfortable thanks to the smooth ride from the air suspension and creature comforts inside.

Unrealistically I'd take an Alpina XB7 for that extra performance.

14hr Banff / Montreal / Maine drives r my thing
Here’s what I’m requesting in the rental lane:

super relaxing:
- BMW iX: best hands free auto drive & lane change, crazy good seats
- Escalade: better controls and dynamics than X5/6
- Dodge Charger/Durango/Jeep GC/Ram 1500
- new Prius/Camry

Need to try
- Lucid
- Lexus LC
- MB EQS/new E and S class
- Porsche Taycan/Panamera/non base Cayenne
- F150 Lightning WITH BlueCruise

cancelled
- Any BMW without air suspension: tbh even with it the G series on center steering is sloppy
- Any lower tier Lexus product, esp IS/NX/RX
- Rivian R1: amazing dynamics but terrible ride quality
- Any Tesla: highland 3 still gives u bumps u can’t see
- Any Hond/Acura incl new Civic/Accord/CRV: still loud
- Audi A5 SB/SQ5: unstable braking, no confidence after ripping a pass
- Audi Q7: 2.0 and 2.9 both thirsty and laggy
- Any Genesis: G80/GV80 sound insulation still bad

A Ram 1500 would be an interesting road trip vehicle - I hear the ride quality is fantastic and the interior is super-luxe (and that Hurricane turbo motor). I'd hate to drive it in a city though - just way too big in a lot of places.

Trucks are the best for road trips/camping. Ram trucks use coilover rear springs with air suspension instead of a solid axle so just as comfy as a luxury suv. Anything that smells can be thrown in the back, and most modern trucks have an electric outlet in the bed to charge whatever accessories or an induction cooktop. It’s a shame that asian culture associate trucks with poor laborers although I see more and more mainlanders driving raptors in richmond.
