MY5 does not cover international text messages. You are roaming on a international network, not the local rogers network.

I was in this situation before and called Rogers about it and thats what they told me.

But that's what Rogers told me!
But it makes sense because you're still accessing a foreign network. Sure, under the Rogers network it might be free, but Rogers doesn't exist in Taiwan. Somebody has to pay for the use of the Taiwanese network.

op, you better check with your carrier again regarding your charges for receiving while in taiwan. but for sure, you dont have to worry about your gf.

wow, still getting mixed messages about this. i know for sure I wont get charged because Quote: How much does text messaging cost?
It all depends on where you are and where your message is being sent. Messages sent from Canada cost 15¢ each while those from the U.S. and from an international country cost 75¢.
Messages sent from Canada to international wireless customers cost 25¢. Receiving text messages, regardless of where they originate, is always free.

i still need a definitive answer, as everyone is having mixed ideas ...

That means ur gf doesn't get charged for sending to u and its free for u to receive. But for u to reply her its going to cost u 75 cents.
Forget about ur my5 or whatever
Here's how sms works and charged on the basis of pay per use
From can # to another can # while in can is 15cents
From can # to a foreign # ie. Local taiwan # is 25 cents
From OUTSIDE can sending to ANY # is 75 cents
To receive a sms wherever u are is free.
