Mirror phone to TV Options
Need some help from Tech Guru's. I want to stream or mirror what I have on my phone to a TV. The only problem it will be at a cabin with no internet or Cell coverage. I would like to support ios and droid.
I looked at Chromecast and Apple TV but you need to have wifi to work? All I want is simple mirroring across platforms to the TV. |
i dont own either but i'm pretty sure it means the two devices communicate via wifi, not that you need a broadband connection to connect online.
For Chromecast, you need a wifi access point. Whether or not you can use your phone's Hotspot as one, I'm not sure - maybe.
Also, depending on your android phone, if it's MHL enabled you can get a cable such as this one: Rocketfish HDMI to MHL Adapter (RF-G1171) : HDMI Accessories - Future Shop I don't think Apple supports this. |
Few months ago, I tried to fiddle with a Chromecast without an access point and couldn't get it working. Using your phone as a hotspot may work but I didn't have another device available since one of the steps asks you to connect to the chromecast's access point to connect to another. It might work with a wireless router with no internet connection but I cannot verify.
Apple TV doesn't support droid. |

Do these devices actually require internet? Or would a simple Wifi router with no data suffice?

Bumping this back up, what's currently the cheapest option for casting from a phone to TV? I don't need any streaming services built in since I can just get those on the phone.
Chromecast, $35 or less.
If your TV does not accept wireless mirroring, Chromecast is likely your best option, and it is cheap.
Chromecast. I have one for my parents to stream their dramas from their iPad to their TV.
It'll mainly be used to run stuff on the monitor we use for a TV for my toddler when she's sick, dragging out a PS3 to hook up to it is a hassle.
This might be a dumb suggestion, but check to see if your monitor is capable of screen mirroring. Most modern monitors "should" have this function. Then again, you wouldn't be posting in this thread. :p
It's from 2009 or 2010 so I don't think it counts as modern anymore :lol
chromecast or use the microsoft wireless display adapter. both should work.
