I remember reading this in "The Vancouver Sun" quite recently...
There was a Washington man who held a girl captive in his little beat-up boat. It was docked somewhere in the suburbs or Seattle and he kept her locked in a room within the boat without any light. The girl was about 20 (I think) when she was kidnapped. Anyways, the conditions inside the boat were utterly horrible...the man kept his vicious dogs inside the boat (which constantly bit her) and threw food into the room so that she had to share it with the dogs. There was no light and the boat was constantly rocking. The boat was also falling apart...the room in which she was kept in was stinky and was never cleaned up. Well, she was held captive for 13 YEARS~! One day, a man who was working in the docks heard some woman screaming from the man's boat. A social worker inspected the boat and found the woman inside the boat. The police was sent in and the woman was absolutely traumatized. She was afraid of talking to people and was grossly in bad shape. It took the hospital many days to clean off the dirt from her skin. She had numerous scars all over her overweight body and her ears began to deform. Now, she needs medical assistance..24 hours a day for the rest of her life.
I didn't really read up on what happened to the guy but I heard that he was given a pretty light sentence. He was also forced to pay some of her medical costs...
did anybody else read up on this?
I thought it was so scary...I can't believe what kind of people are out there...
