this was probably the most insulting thing I ever heard when i went down to the states.

Woman "Are u from Mainland China?"
Me "No, I'm from Vancouver, Canada"
Woman "Oh Wow, u speak such good enlgish. u must practice it all the time. They have chinese ppl in Canada? Does your family run a sushi restaurant?"
