I know nothing about cameras or photography but what's a good lightweight and small camera that is just used for everyday pictures type of thing? Price range is around $500 or so.

At least 5 megapixels and has to be small. Also I would like the speed from taking the picture to when I can take it again to be quick as my old camera takes forever.
