You can tell very easily. If the VIN # starts with:

1-USA
2-Canada
3-Mexico
4-USA
5-Canada

you do not pay duty.

Anything starting with anything else (for example, J-Japan, W-Germany) you will pay 6.1% duty on the purchase price at the border when you cross it.
