the reason it works out like that is because each person only paid 9 dollars.. out of that nine dollars they payed .. 8 1/3 dollars for dinner and 2/3 of a dollar was stolen from each person.. thus equaling 9 dollars total..
8 1/3 (for dinner) x 3 (people) = 25 dollars
25 dollars + 2 dollars stolen = 27 dollars
they only paid 27 dollars because they got the three dollars back... which would make it = 30 dollars
ok that sounds kind of confusing...
hmmm...
so each person pays 9 dollars.. and they get 1 dollar back and that = 10 dollars each.. and 3 x 10 = 30
the amount stolen by the waiter is included in the 9 dollars they pay... get it?
