VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - It's not the healthiest meal around but they sure are tasty! News1130 is on the street, grilling you about a proposal in Vancouver that could spell the death of the traditional hot dog cart.

The idea is to make street food in Vancouver healthier and more varied. A proposal by city councillor Heather Deal would see hot dog carts offering things like fruit and vegetables, locally grown and produced food and more choices to reflect the culture mosaic in Vancouver.

It's modeled after an experiment in New York that saw the spread of fruit and veggie carts into low income neighbourhoods. But when it comes down to a banana or a fully loaded sizzling and savoury bratwurst, what are you going to choose?

Ayla says it depends if she's intoxicated or not. After the bar it's a dog, and after the gym, it's fruit. Tyler is originally from New York and says he'd definitely go for the NY-style tube steak. He asks why would you buy fruit when you can pack an apple with you?

Others say in a city of hot yoga, juice bars and dental spas, we can't afford to give up one of the last bastions of sinfully good, unhealthy snacks. The proposal will be debated by city council next week.
