Diabetes Type 2 is caused (in most cases) by consuming large amounts of glucose over a long period of time, so much that the body cells become immune to the insulin flooding the body. Inactivity has a lot to do with it, but the main cause is excess glucose.

Bacteria cannot grow in an environment with large amounts of sugars, because sugar molecules lock oxygen away. This is why pure honey does not rot.
