I havent figured out the focus attacks yet really.. from what I see, basically it's a slow attack you can do, where you can absorb some (but not infinite) damage. The longer you hold it, the more powerful the attack. And it knocks the opponent down.
More importantly, you can use it to cancel a current move, so you can do like a super shoryureppa, cancel it before it ends, and do another shoryureppa for a crazy ass combo. But this requires crazy timing.
You definitely have to play more defensively than before, but not like SF3. It's actually pretty much a perfect balance of the two styles.
