Looks like the EPP plan and they threw in the text msging for free. So about $10/20?(2500/10000msgs on website) in free credits for them to keep you. I think the rule of thumb is that they can't give you freebie credits exceeding your voice plan dollar value. So your deal is pretty good considering 17.50 is your initial value.

My retention plan that I negotiated 2007 xmas time:

200 daytime
1000 E/W
Unl. Incoming
Unl. network calling F/R
Free CID

$25

plus the SAF+911 charge+tax = ~$36
3 year renewal

Came from a shitty 50 daytime, 1000 E/W I think, 1000 F2F minutes for $20.

I kinda want some free texts now, and btw I negotiated this when my 2 year contract ended in Fall 2007.

I think it's easier to negotiate end of year or periods of when their quota or customer contracts are running out soon and want to lock people up fast. Took me 3-4 calls, first call was super unsuccessful and rude CSR, and rest was more lenient and nice and you need to have manners and mostly luck of the draw on the person on the other end.

I read a lot of these deals and stuff, like on RFD, and some people get even sweeter freebies and all that.
