the problem with your theory is that by putting the bass close to you it will actually force you to turn it up louder to get a decent amount of bass since the wave hasnt even developed yet. Then your neighbour who is like 30 ft away is having his whole place shake cuz the wave has actually had a chance to develop at that point.
If that makes any sense.
For example. In my place the sub is right next to my computer desk. If I'm sitting at my desk the bass isnt too loud. If I sit at the couch it sounds good. If I go take a shower while I have music on I can actually hear it rattling the wall.
