You shouldn't be hitting the tank anyway. Means you've probably got too much pressure on the bars/wrists which means you've got no tensed core and you're sitting too close. Of course in emergency braking situations it could happen.

Be conscious of the weight on your wrists and hold your upper body up with your core, not arms. You can sit farther back without feeling out of control
