Where do you box? I have no idea when you say they are used for training. Pad work? Bag work, sparring?

I would suggest hook and loop and leather (invest in leather if this is a long term deal) If you are new and just want to get your feet wet, the everlast ones for $30-50 will do. You can find them at Wal mart, sport check etc..

And so you know, 160z is what is normally used for sparring. I would recommend 160z as well, to build your punching power.

I like the Select ones myself, but they retail for about $140. I only use mine for sparring only and my 12oz for padwork, and bag gloves for the bag sometimes.

Vinyl cracks. Be careful.

Here are the more affordable Everlast (youll find these everywhere)

And cruise craigslist, there are always lots of ppl that give up boxing when they get hit in the nose for the first time.
