your computer is aquiring an IP from the router. the router would already have an IP from shaw before, durring, and after the PC reset and would have nothing to do with the router giving the comptuer an IP. this sounds like router.
I'm pretty sure the router would give the PC an IP even with no internet connection. (as it's acting as a DCHP server using local IPs)
