lesson 1, shut off you downloads when playing online... you need a pretty stable connection to play online. i have the shaw xtreme-i and i consistently get 10+ mbps down and 500+ kbps up. if i have torrents running, even just at 100kbps each way then my PSN connection takes a long time to load and it drops all the time.
lesson 2, install the game onto your hdd... if you dont the load times before each match are long and it kills when you are waiting to play someone online. you can totally tell when your opponent doesnt have the game loaded, it sucks. if you dont do it for your online opponent at least do it for yourself.
lesson 3, ditch your wireless connection.... wireless connections vary in stability based on many factors (range, number of clients, interference, performance/quality of access point). in most home wireless setups you will receive better results if you jack in using ethernet, if your wireless is speedy then you have nothing to worry about unless you are trying to stream video to your ps3.
