Exactly!
The majority of you guys are so in the dark. I don't mean to be insulting or condescending, ok, maybe a bit, but Billboa brings up something I wanted to mention earlier.
Why does the US Army talk about "$40,000 for college, enlist now!" and such?
Well, nobody just joins the Army and signs themself away to rough living for nothing, come on! Especially when being in the Army means more than likely the enemies of the US want you dead.
Think of gangs like a military unit, but instead of defending the constitution, they are defending their revenue sources. ( the drug trade )
You join the army and:
1. You gain new friends
2. You gain an honorable title (in some circles)
3. You make little money
4. You live a rough and non-luxurious lifestyle for awhile
5. Long time away from friends and family
6. You still need some qualifications to join and can be turned down for many reasons
7. You expect danger
Compare that to joining a gang:
1. You gain new friends
2. You can gain honorable titles (in some circles, especially with sleazy, yet hot, bitches)
3. You can make a LOT of money
4. You can live a luxurious lifestyle
5. No time away from friends and family
6. Qualifications would be knowing the right contacts and having the proper mentality, or being able to obey without question and be ruthless in your execution of your duties
7. You expect danger
As far as risk VS reward, doesn't it seem like being a gangster would be safer and pay better than a soldier in Iraq?
Now, it seems to me that grunts in Iraq getting shot at and roadside bombed daily for 4+ years have a raw deal compared to the average gangster in Vancouver. I mean, sure, the gangster has to deal with the occasional bullet flying at them, but as a soldier in Iraq you had to deal with bullets, bombs, suicide attacks, no family around, very little relaxation, and many other hardships.
Being a gangster would be FAR EASIER in comparison!
Suicides are at an all time high in the US Army at the moment, I would be willing to bet almost no gangsters kill themselves. They are probably living pretty damn good in B.C.
In fact, being a gangster is probably easier and pays better than being a cop, and judging by the few arrests being made, probably the law isn't even much of a concern. The Bacon brothers are famous, everyone knows they are gangsters and they're still out of jail!
I'm sure it's probably pretty funny to some gang members just how impotent the police really are. They can take down an angry stapler-armed polak at an airport, but if you have an up-armored BMW, caught with guns and well known ties to gangs you're walking free and sitting pretty!
