Ok, I know it sounds like a stupid question but you said your old computer doesn't start, what exactly happen? Did it just stop working one day? The reason I ask is are you sure your HDD didn't get damaged? I had a similar issue with my old computer last summer. The PSU overheated and fried my mobo and damaged my HDD. Also, when you plug in your HDD does it show up in your bios? I would also check your jumper settings to see if that makes a difference.
