which place in tokyo did you go to? i tried izuei honten in ueno (as featured on ronin and rouenthals blog) and found it very good. however, i was able to eat hitsumabushi in nagoya and find that superior to kanto style unagi due to its crispiness and bold flavor. also, i never knew hi genki had unagi-don but it could be one of the daily specials they always feature. i noticed vancouver unagi is very much like the unagi you would find at sukiya or yoshinoya.
