True story

Mona Watson, a woman who has previously experienced a nervous breakdown, has been repeatedly seeing the ghostly apparition of a blood-stained woman in her hallway mirror. These sightings have put a strain on her relationship with her skeptical husband, George. Mona, who is fearful that the apparition is a sign of an imminent relapse, tries to consult with her psychiatrist, who concludes Mona is seeing things because of insufficient sleep. However, that night, she sees the apparition again in the mirror. A month later, Mona is left home alone after George is stranded in the city by a terrible storm. To avoid seeing the apparition, she covers the mirror with a bedsheet. After going to bed however, Mona is attacked by a burglar. As they struggle, they knock the bedsheet off the mirror, and the burglar sees the apparition himself. He flees, only to be eventually arrested by police in a frenzied state. It is revealed that the burglar had recently escaped police after murdering a woman. When this woman's picture is later printed in the newspaper, Mona identifies her as the woman in the mirror. After the incident, Mona never sees the apparition again.
