Wait for next NCIX sale, pick up cheap Lenovo G-series (value line) for $500ish. Very solid laptop with good set of features, and it'll last longer than the HP/Acer/Compaq crap you'd find at BB/FS.
@ Dragon-88, maybe she doesn't want the tiny screen on a netbook, I know I can't really deal with that.
