You can just upgrade. I just did the upgrade from Vista to 7, started the installation, went for Coffee, came home and it was done. Went super smooth, ran into 0 issues. The majority of my applications/software still work, I think maybe 3 programs had to be reinstalled. Also, I'm on a Dell Laptop and had 0 driver issues on the switch.
I've only been using 7 today but I'm really digging the new task bar, and all the other improvements that I've seen so far! Good post here on a lot of the new features -->
