one method i have seen the caesar milan use that I think is very logical and simple. carry a cane or umbella out on your walk. use it to block the dog when he steps in front of you. use it as an extension to your arm.
or you can try out the various "lazy ppl who don't like to train" products like gentle leader, anti pulling harnesses,
choke chain/pinch collar is another choice too but make sure you know how to use it PROPERLY
