try installing the factory graphics drivers and see if that solves the problem

i had a similar problem on my laptop after i updated my drivers, my display went all wonky. turns out Nvidia's new drivers stopped supporting my particular video card (9650M GT)

if the problem persists, i would just take out the video card immediately and run on integrated graphics for the time being... theres no telling what kind of damage your video card is doing to your board and monitor
