It could be because she was beyond the point of arousal and had orgasmed or close to. Orgasms are a menstruation inducer since it contracts the uterus stimulating blood flow into the uterus.
Whereas shortening menses after intercourse is also true, for 2 reasons:
1) Orgasms causes contractions of the uterus walls which in turn causes the endometrium lining to shed itself quicker. 2) Semen has a hormone that causes the uterus to contract more.
