did u mean to say pullups or pushups? probably doesn't matter in either sense. anyways, the whole concept behind kipping as i understand it is power training. doing more work in less time and using more of your body to accomplish it. they compare kipping to running in that running is primarily a lower body exercise, yet you run with much more efficiency when you use your upper body as well.
