superior? Yes. will you notice a big difference? probably not.

I imagine your current rig is full of parts from around the same time frame so you're going to see performance bottlenecks elsewhere in your system if you decide to upgrade piece by piece.

If you really wanna just get a new CPU the X2 240 is a great chip and can be found for $45-50 if you're lucky. I put a budget rig together for a friend a month or so ago and used this chip and he loves it. Great bang for the buck.
