So I got an e-mail from Blizzard the other day saying they closed my world of warcraft account due to the use of "hacks" on my account. I thought this was a little weird since I quit playing and canceled my account almost a year ago. Since I couldn't log in to the account management screen I decided to e-mail them back and explain I haven't played in a year and it wasn't me and asked them to let me know if someone had activated my account so I can change my passwords for all my other stuff.
Yesterday they e-mail me back saying after investigating they found that the account was in fact compromised and they were restoring it for me and sent me a link to change the password. After doing that I decided to log in to the account management and see what was going on. It appears someone gained access to my account and bought 3 months of game time starting December 28. All my characters are still there and according to wowarmory.com their gear hasn't been vendored. I now have about 100 level 1 alts on every server though but that's ok haha.
Unfortunately I don't have the game installed anywhere anymore and don't really have any desire to play. Maybe I'll just download and install it so I can log in and say hi to people.
tl,dr: I got 3 free months of WoW because someone hacked my account.
